Just that really.

Would you pay money for this birthday cake?

youokayhun Sat 26-May-18 01:07:06

I'd be happy with it if a friend made it but it's not what I would personally expect from a professional cake maker, however I do think that's personal preference.

MrsEricBana Sat 26-May-18 01:07:28

I definitely would. Did you make it?

MrsEricBana Sat 26-May-18 01:08:37

I think a little girl would love it!

itsbetterthanabox Sat 26-May-18 01:08:56

Same as youokhun.
Lively for homemade! But not pro cake maker quality.

ScreamingValenta Sat 26-May-18 01:09:33

If I knew someone named Georgia aged two, then yes.

SoWakeUp Sat 26-May-18 01:12:07

I wouldn't pay for it, no.

BendydickCuminsnatch Sat 26-May-18 01:13:25

Definitely not! Fine for homemade but not professional. Uncovered board is a dead giveaway of a non-professional anyway!

SeriousSass Sat 26-May-18 01:14:15

I would pay something but it depends what that something is.

It looks like a cake I could make. Its not high end but it’s colourful and fun. I don’t think two year olds care too much.

EasterRobin Sat 26-May-18 01:17:12

Yes, I would be very happy to pay for a cake like that. It looks great and my 3 year old DD would love it.

SexyManatee Sat 26-May-18 01:21:36

I'd pay a competitive 'mates rates' price, but not professional prices.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar Sat 26-May-18 01:25:47

I think it's lovely.

SeriousSass Sat 26-May-18 01:26:48

So OP?
What’s the story......

Copperbonnet Sat 26-May-18 01:27:21

It’s a perfectly nice looking cake but not what I’d expect from a professional cake maker, so no, I wouldn’t want to buy it.

SD1978 Sat 26-May-18 01:28:58

Friend I’d pay for ingredients and time and be happy. Professional, would not be too impressed

viques Sat 26-May-18 01:30:50

Plastic figures , fondant cut outs and toxic icing? I would pay for the ingredients and baking costs if a friend made it for a favour, but not much more.

AjasLipstick Sat 26-May-18 01:31:34

I would! OP, if I were you, I would set up on Facebook and offer "New Maker Rates" or "Introductory Prices whilst I establish my cake business"

Put plenty of pics on the page so people see the sort of thing they'll get but don't charge as much as those who have more experience.

After a year, you;ll be busier and can probably charge more as you;ll be a bit slicker.

And cover your boards. :D

SheGotBetteDavisEyes Sat 26-May-18 01:34:59

I agree with pp. My youngest DD would love it, but I could probably make it myself, and I'm not particularly amazing with cakes!

It looks great for a kid's party though!

What is the "sand" made from?

LionAllMessy Sat 26-May-18 02:04:35

Well I wouldn't expect it for free!

MadamQuimby Sat 26-May-18 02:11:57

Absolutely! The decoration would have taken at least an hour, getting the 'waves' and sand right, another 30 mins for baking, 15 mins prep (basing this purely on a basic Victoria sponge) more prep and cost for 3 different colours of marzipan icing (approx £3 per bag per colour), marzipan requiring rolling and cutting out in numerous shapes (another hour), then cake board alone would be £2, plus the figurines at approximately £2 each.

Based on minimum wage for someone over 25:
Hours - 3 x 7.83 = £23.49

Cake Ingredients - (flour £1, eggs: 60p, milk - 60p, butter £1.30, caster sugar = £1.9p) based on "value" ingredients.
Cake Ingredients total = £5.40

Caked decorations
Icing sugar = £1, butter, £1.30, food coloring £1.75 (£4.05)
Moana figurines: £12 for set of 6 (£2 per figurine)
Total Moana; £4
Marzipan - 3 x 100g @ £×3 ea = £9

Cake decoration total: £17.05

=£45.94
BREAKDOWN:

This excludes travel, electricity, water,

Don't be so cheap. Pay your baker or make it yourself.

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Sat 26-May-18 02:15:57

I would have paid for it or made it myself, expect my attempt would have been inedible....I don’t see the problem

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Sat 26-May-18 02:17:18

If anything it looks a lovely cake
