What standup comedians are OK for DC to watch?

DC are 11 and 8. They've seen a bit of Michael MacIntyre and thought it was really funny and it made me wonder who else is funny and not too inappropriate! Any suggestions?

Milton Jones - he's deadpan, full of one liners and very funny. Also Tim Vine. The sort of comedy that has three generations laughing. There's no smut or innuendo. Milton Jones in particular is "cool" - appears on Mock the Week etc.

Milton Jones and Tim Vine were exactly my suggestions too. Eddie Izzard’s early surreal stuff and Bill Bailey’s Guide To The Orchestra also worth a try.

Michael MacIntye?

Singlenotsingle Sat 26-May-18 00:32:06

Sorry, they've seen him.

Ed Byrne? such a massive crush on him

John Bishop

Ooh some great ideas, thanks!

I hate John Bishop. He did a very nasty set poking fun at a person with a lazy eye once. If my DC had seen that they would have been humiliated (yes, they have a lazy eye). He's got a nasty sense of 'humour'.

Peter Kaye

Absolutely not John Bishop!!

Pater Kay and Michael McIntyre are very family friendly

Looking at comedians actually aimed at children, Howard Read (Big Howard and Little Howard) is great live but I don’t think he’s touring at the moment.

John Finnemore also fairly age appropriate (though a bit thinky). My teens love him.

My DC (9 and 11) love John Finnemore, although I think some of the jokes go over their heads! Unbelievable Truth with David Mitchell is good too, plus fun facts (we are geeks).

Michael McIntyre is different live. I wouldn't take a child and you have to be over 14. He swears and has made a joke about blow jobs. So just be aware if you thought of letting them watch his DVD.

Dara O'Briain? Love him. I also love Romesh Ranganathan, can't remember if he's sweary though. No sex jokes anyway.

My boys are the same age and also love John Finnemore and Milton Jones. They both have series available on the BBC iPlayer Radio at the moment if you want to check them out (Double Acts and Thanks a Lot, Milton Jones). John Finnemore's Cabin Pressure is our all time favourite.

They also enjoy The Now Show, News Quiz, Unbelievable Truth, Just a Minute and I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.

Bill Bailey. I have seen his shows a couple of times and I can't think of any content that wouldn't be suitable for kids.

Cockmagic Sat 26-May-18 11:02:17

Bill bailey is amazing, and very clever. I've seen him live twice

JellySlice Sat 26-May-18 11:02:50

Dave Gorman's Modern Life is Goodish.

SuperSuperSuper Sat 26-May-18 11:36:07

They might enjoy Rhod Gilbert's luggage story. And the mince pie one.

Bridget Christie
Dave Gorman
Ryan Hamilton

Some bits of Modern Life is Goodish have sexual references but most of it’s fine, my 13 year old loves it.

angelopal Sat 26-May-18 12:26:35

Jason Manford is very good.

Cabin Pressure is the best thing ever.
