DH can't pee

And he's in quite a bit of pain.
Says he's feeling the need to go, pain in both bladder area and penis, but simply cannot go.
Of course this would happen at 20.30 when our only option is a late night pharmacy (30 mins drive away) or A&E (2 mins away)...
What can I Do?

Honestly I would go to A and E. You could call for advice but if he's already in pain I wouldn't.

TroysMammy Tue 22-May-18 20:46:19

A&E. Urine retention can be serious.

And NHS website basically says it's likely to be a prostate problem or uti, but no advice on how to sooth symptoms

CanIGoToBedNow Tue 22-May-18 20:47:23

A&E - it’s urgent

madamy Tue 22-May-18 20:47:32

A&E - as pp said, urinary retention can be serious and you need to find out why. Speaking as an HCP.

RippleEffects Tue 22-May-18 20:47:33

A and E.

gardeningnewbie Tue 22-May-18 20:47:34

A&E right now.

IlikemyTeahot Tue 22-May-18 20:48:25

has he tried sitting down for one?

BuntyCollocks Tue 22-May-18 20:48:26

A&E. If he can’t go he needs to be catheterised and they need to find out WHY.

mineofuselessinformation Tue 22-May-18 20:48:29

Take it from me, I've suffered urine retention in the past (2 litres!!)
An over-stretched bladder can suffer either nerve damage or can burst.
He needs to go.

JennyOnAPlate Tue 22-May-18 20:49:02

Yes go straight to a&e

Kb12 Tue 22-May-18 20:49:24

Definitely A&E.

Ginmere Tue 22-May-18 20:49:28

Please go to A & E, same thing happened to my DH and it was urosepsis, very serious if not treated quickly

AdaColeman Tue 22-May-18 20:50:08

Another vote for A&E.

SauvignonBlanche Tue 22-May-18 20:50:09

A&E !!

Lmj25 Tue 22-May-18 20:51:18

A&E my bladder nearly burst due to not being able to wee

kaytee87 Tue 22-May-18 20:51:25

Yes A&E. I hope it's nothing serious op.

YouBoggleMyMind Tue 22-May-18 20:52:09

Defo A&E

Tiredmum100 Tue 22-May-18 20:52:29

Another one saying a&e.

MizCracker Tue 22-May-18 20:52:33

Totally an A&E job. A pharmacy wouldn't be able to help. Good luck!

Bastardingcough Tue 22-May-18 20:52:57

Ah, we have a breakthrough (ahem)
He downed two and half pints of water and stood under the shower, and managed a pee! The look of relief on his face was a picture.
I've told him he's to go to the GP first thing, or hospital tonight if it happens again.

madamy Tue 22-May-18 20:57:28

How old is he? Definitely see GP this week.

Bastardingcough Tue 22-May-18 21:07:22

He's 43.
Always been a very slow wee-er.
