Id like to say im a good cook.. but my DP isnt very adventurous. We're trying to cut down our carb intake (but not go keto or anything, just reduce)

He LOVES my home made burgers so requests them most weeks.. i use 5% or lower fat beef, turkey or pork (to mix it up a bit) with a range of herbs and spices.. toast a bun and then load it with salad, the burger and a little chutney. To him this is perfect... but what do i put with it? Im sick or chips, hes stick of chips + we dont want a burger bun AND chips every time...but after a full day at work we need a bit more than just a burger..

What would you put with burger other than chips???

Home made coleslaw and salad.

I sometimes make home made potato crisps or root vegetable crisps with burgers (or just buy them).

Corn on the cob is a nice side too.

I serve corn on the cob.

Jacket potato / sweet potato, salad, corn on the cob, roasted vegetables, or lose the bun and make cheeseburger pasta.

new potatoes, salad and coleslaw?

PenelopeFlintstone Tue 22-May-18 10:04:50

Two burgers without the buns, plus the big salad?

Cloud bread (low carb)
Salads (my fave is tomato mozzarella)
Stir fry veg! Sounds radical but works
Ploughman’s plate
Latkes (not as much potato as chips)

Heratnumber7 Tue 22-May-18 10:07:42

Green veg
Mashed potato
Mashed sweet potato
Sweet potato chips
Just about anything really!

We love Burger salad

Bowl of shredded iceberg, tomato, onion (raw and caramelised), cooked mushroom, maybe some avocado or cucumber, dice the cooked burger and put on top then drizzle either burger sauce or a chutney & mayo mix on top

If you want the bread then grill the bun to make croutons and add on top

Oh and sliced gherkin!

CrazyHippo Tue 22-May-18 11:30:13

These are good ideas. Why didnt i think of corn on the cob??? Think ill pinch a mix of all of these.

Wait4nothing Tue 22-May-18 11:35:24

We also sometimes replace bun with grilled mushroom and then add a small portion of potato salad if we want something carb based. That with a nice salad - yum

"Big mac in a bowl" (google it, delicious actually!)

Can you make the burgers into meatballs or koftas instead for a change? then that will open up more sides options to serve with?

flowerpot1000000 Tue 22-May-18 11:39:31

I sometimes do - 2 x burgers, beans, big flat mushrooms, half tomato grilled, scrambled egg and hash browns

flowerpot1000000 Tue 22-May-18 11:41:24

Or what about this!!!! Looks scrummy,

FizzyGreenWater Tue 22-May-18 11:57:58

You can make a good plain salad a lot more filling with chickpeas and black olives in it

NameChanger22 Tue 22-May-18 11:59:49

Pasta salad, potato salad, bean salad; or all three.

TenThousandSpoons Tue 22-May-18 13:42:47

Greek salad (feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, olives and red onions)

CrazyHippo Tue 22-May-18 15:09:26

Thanks for the replies. DP is such a fussy and "plain" eater. He wont eat pasta.. only salad vegetables he eats are lettuce and onion.. he dont like mushrooms.. wont try "different cheeses".. but there are some options he will try that have been suggested.. he grew up being fed convenient freezer food so ive made pretty good progress getting him to eat new stuff.. he has got better. I eat well when hes on late shifts 😂😂
