How do you wear a kimono without looking like you’ve gone out in a dressing gown

A la Jessa from Girls

Saw a beautiful one in river island today, put it on and it definitely veered into dressing gown territory

I've got this one, it's not exactly a kimono but the sleeves are similar

Does it feel dressing gowny?

OdileDeCaray Mon 21-May-18 17:00:16

No not at all. I'm the last person who would ever wish to wear a dressing gown in public!

Furano Mon 21-May-18 17:01:37

mmmmmm yeah that still looks like a dressing gown to me!

OdileDeCaray Mon 21-May-18 17:03:41

Budget friendly and doesn't look like a dressing gown

What size are you OP? I'm 5 3" and a size 6-8 and much as I love kimonos, I've have to admit defeat and accept that I can't wear them as they just swamp me, and yes, look 'dressing gown' like.

Maybe it's the same for you?

MallyDeets Mon 21-May-18 18:09:22

5.6 size 6

Maybe too thin? I think you need some curves (read breasts)

MallyDeets Mon 21-May-18 18:13:00

I was thinking this which I love

m.asos.com/boohoo/boohoo-floral-tie-front-kimono/prd/9374702?clr=mustard&SearchQuery=kimono&gridcolumn=2&gridrow=1&gridsize=2&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=400

And this

Today 18:09 MallyDeets

5.6 size 6

Maybe too thin? I think you need some curves (read breasts)

.......

If she'd put she was a size 16-18 instead of 6-8 would you have said she was too fat? No of course you wouldn't.

It's just pathetic that so called 'fat shaming' is deemed nasty but snide comments about being too thin are acceptable. Well I think it's bloody rude of you.

OdileDeCaray Mon 21-May-18 18:18:45

MallyDeets

I like those long floaty kimono styles. The yellow floral one is nice.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome Mon 21-May-18 18:30:01

Swords. People might think it looks dressing-gowny, but they won't dare say so. You'll need socks with toes and tabi as well.

TitZillas Mon 21-May-18 19:08:16

LOVE that ASOS one!

MallyDeets Mon 21-May-18 19:24:54

Er Odile

I was talking about myself..that’s what size I am! I don’t have any breasts. You don’t need to talk to me about thin shaming

MallyDeets Mon 21-May-18 19:25:13

TitZillas, the yellow one or the other one?

OdileDeCaray Mon 21-May-18 19:51:50

MallyDeets, my utmost apologies!

I'm very sorry. I misread your comment as being a reply to HildaZelda.

I can see now that the statistics you have differ from hers!

I'm an idiot!

Oh dear. I thought one of the mums on the school run was wearing her dressing gown today.
It’s not the type of area where people go out in their pjs so I thought it might be the start of something promising.
wondering how long to give it before dropping dc to school in a negligee

You should wear one with those fluffy slider flip-flops to add to the 'just got out of bed' style!
