Hi all, I've posted several threads about relocating to the north west. So I have found a lovely perfect house in this area, but was wondering what people thought about this area?

I've posted a map of where the house is for clarity.

That is very VERY close to where I grew up and it’s lovely smile

Just realised my title has been autocorrected to Preston lol!

PalePinkSwan Fri 11-May-18 12:12:51

Sorry, more helpful answer - it’s a safe family friendly area, you’ll be close to the park and close to oxton village (nice pubs/cafes, it’s the posh bit).

Have you looked at schools? Birkenhead high school (girls) used to be private but became an academy, so it has good facilities. Birkenhead school (co-ed) is private.

Birkenhead shopping precinct will be an easy walk - it’s a bit down market these days but still useful for basics, and you can easily get to Liverpool or Chester for nicer shops.

Beaches, nature reserves and proper countryside all an easy drive.

Ah it does sound perfect! We would need primary school which all look good in that area.

PalePinkSwan Fri 11-May-18 12:25:38

Yes it’s a lovely area, I’d move back in a shot, but my ageing parents are in London now so it’s not realistic. Think you’ll be very happy there.

I live in this area. Its lovely. Birkenhead park is fab for kids.

Pedallleur Fri 11-May-18 12:54:05

It's Liverpool not Preston (about 30 miles away).

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 12:59:51

I meant Prenton.....autocorrect!

HollowTalk Fri 11-May-18 13:01:28

Hmm are you looking in other Wirral areas, too, OP? What's the price range?

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 15:00:52

I've looked at many areas. Would rather be closer to Chester but really liked this house and it's available from August which is when we need.

Sunshineintheclouds Fri 11-May-18 15:04:21

Preston would be better wink

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 18:34:07

Haha Preston much too far!

BloomersBerry Fri 11-May-18 18:40:05

It wouldn't be my first choice on the Wirral TBH - what kind of property are you looking for & how much is your budget?

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 19:13:20

I'm looking for a 3 bed property and £800 max. This is the only property that is available for August I can find at the moment though!

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 19:14:35

I'm not looking for the absolute best area, as long as I'm safe walking down the road (well as safe as can be) and my child can go to a decent school then I'm happy.

JacintaJones Fri 11-May-18 19:25:43

Oh not the best area OP, there are a few nice roads in Oxton village but that isn't Oxton Village.

You could have a much nicer area (Hoylake/Wallasey Village/West Kirby/ Meols etc) for 800 pm.
Unless you need a huge house that is.

I wouldn't feel safe walking around that area at night.

The Birkenhead high school/ Birkenhead school are good schools but their catchmemt area is wirral wide.

NC4Now Fri 11-May-18 19:27:55

I came on here to talk about Preston 😂

The Wirral’s lovely though - nicer generally!

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 19:29:14

Bloody autocorrect grin

MrsMotherHen Fri 11-May-18 19:32:05

I wouldn't think thats great area either for your budget try new brighton, wallasey village, Moreton (maybe) West kirby might be tight on that budget.

Atetoomanyjaffacakes Fri 11-May-18 19:35:05

I am from Wirral but I live abroad now. I have noticed a huge decline in Birkenhead since I left and wouldn't feel safe to live there now. Wirral is lovely though, I would live in Greasby or Irby if I moved back

MrsMotherHen Fri 11-May-18 19:36:06

Lj8893 Fri 11-May-18 19:38:06

That's lovely but will not be available august and I think Wallasey is slightly too far for work for me (Ellesmere Port area), Birkenhead is the furthest I could travel.

MrsMotherHen Fri 11-May-18 19:40:14

look for property in little Sutton maybe or brombrough, port sunlight ways they are all closer.

DragonsAndCakes Fri 11-May-18 19:41:12

Don’t know the area but on the deprivation map the part you’ve pinned doesn’t look great.
