Just been watching Dinner Ladies reruns on Gold and I had forgotten how beautifully understated it was. DH and I have been sat giggling at it all evening.

It is the gentle story telling and pure normalness of it. I have known someone like each of the characters in the series.

It is such shame Victoria Wood died so young.

I agree, we’ve been doing the same. It’s so well written and funny. It’s tragic she went much to soon.

It really is one of the best sitcoms. To this day my favourite line is:

Dolly: "Is he laying your new lino then?" (referring to Stan)
Jean: "''E's laying anything e wants to lay!" grin

She was a comic genius. Loved “ Dinnerladies”

Agreed. The writing was funny, clever, perspicacious, solid, surprising at times, very grown up. Didn’t require any bells or whistles, no salaciousness or shock tactics - it was quality stuff. The cast was really well chosen. VW was really a pro at her game, not many in her league I think, with such consistent output over so many years.

Exactly Plum

So many wonderful vignettes.

"have you seen my Clint?"

My favourite line was when Bren asked Jean what Barry had done in a shop

Jean - He felt my bottom
Bren - He must be keen
Dolly - He must be fit!

I love that Pyong

It's brilliant, my absolute favourite atm. Bren is just a warm and likeable character, you just root for her through every series.

Are you pregnant? Not unless sperm can get through a sash window why?

Love it

PyongyangKipperbang Sun 18-Mar-18 03:24:43

And of course the wonderful.....

"Can you smell my Charlie?" grin

One of the best sit coms ever. Clever, warm and very funny. I love it and have all the eps but don’t have Gold and so can’t see the special programme about it sad.

DH and I went to nearly all of the recordings though. It was made the year before and after we got married. Sigh. We knew how to live!

Jean: "it's a load of codswallop this dieting malarkey. You could fall under a bus tomorrow."
Dolly "I could fall under a bus; you wouldn't fit."

PyongyangKipperbang Sun 18-Mar-18 04:12:29

Jean and Dolly had all the best lines!

"It had things on it that you cant even buy anymore. It wasnt a housecoat, it was a heritage centre!"

PyongyangKipperbang Sun 18-Mar-18 04:15:06

"Dolly was beautiful child, like a doll and then WOOF, she was like a dinghy with plaits"
"That was puberty!"
"It was not, it was pies."
