Hopefully not a hardship to talk about cake for a bit wink

Coffee morning tomorrow and I said I'd make a cake. Will be doing Nigella's old fashioned recipe. (I'm reluctant to do a vanilla sponge as they are never as nice the next day and I have to bake tonight.) How shall I do it? There will be very few people (6 I think), and other options, so I was thinking one layer, tray bake like. Topping options are:
1) ganache and raspberries
2) chocolate cream and raspberries
3) raspberry cream cheese icing
4) raspberry jam and whipped cream with raspberries on top.

Which should I do?

As you may have guessed, I like raspberries and bought some earlier.

I would make one of each to be on the safe side. grin

Assuming that is too much hassle- ganache and raspberries <drools>

Raspberry cream cheese icing...mmmm!

JoJoSM2 Wed 21-Feb-18 17:17:42

All the options make me drool smile

Ganache and raspberries. cake

Dozer Wed 21-Feb-18 17:22:13

Old fashioned what, sponge? Chocolate cake?

I would avoid the frostings that would mean it’d go off if not in fridge, in case it’s not all eaten.

Dozer Wed 21-Feb-18 17:22:45

i do like ganache.

GrainneWail Wed 21-Feb-18 17:33:42

Apologies Dozer, I left out the "chocolate" in the cake title.

Seems ganache and raspberries is winning so far.

I would be tempted to make them all, but then I'd eat them all...

Chocolate cake?? Just ganache, and pig all the raspberries this evening.
Will cream stay stable if you are transporting?

GrainneWail Wed 21-Feb-18 17:45:52

If cream was coming out ahead I would whip in the morning, transport separately and assemble when I get there.

HildaZelda Wed 21-Feb-18 17:50:46

Would you do a raspberry cheesecake? You could do it all tonight and just whip it out of the fridge in the morning.

GrainneWail Wed 21-Feb-18 17:52:31

shock cheesecake is for dessert, not a coffee morning.

SneakyGremlins Wed 21-Feb-18 17:53:46

Excuse you. Cheesecake is for all times of day.

I vote chocolate cream and raspberries!

GrainneWail Wed 21-Feb-18 18:02:11

I love me a cheesecake, but you'll never convince me it's suitable before 1.30pm.

GrainneWail Wed 21-Feb-18 18:02:38

Actually, maybe for breakfast...

yawning801 Wed 21-Feb-18 18:10:05

Ganache and raspberries all the way. I am now drooling...

GooodMythicalMorning Wed 21-Feb-18 18:14:07

Depends if you are talking about a baked or chilled cheesecake I reckon.

WickedGoodDoge Wed 21-Feb-18 18:14:16

I have just allocated myself an extra 100 votes, so that’s another 100 votes for ganache and raspberries.

UnimaginativeUsername Wed 21-Feb-18 18:15:07

Ganache and raspberries every time.

GrainneWail Wed 21-Feb-18 18:24:38

Dh just arrived in with oranges and if I hadn't just put the choc cake in the oven, I'd do a complete about face and make a giant Jaffa cake.

blueskyinmarch Wed 21-Feb-18 18:27:22

Ganache and raspberries. Yum.

Hippadippadation Wed 21-Feb-18 19:18:53
