Where can I buy a nice big, thick soft rug for my living room floor for under £150?

My living room floor is a nasty cheap yellow laminate, currently covered with a very cheap £20 scratchy basic rug from Ikea.

DD has just started crawling and although she seems to have no qualms about crawling around our floor, I find the idea of playing on the floor with her unappealing because the floor is not a welcoming place!

I've read tons of online rug reviews but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Can anyone recommend a particular rug?

I'd like it to be somewhere between 130 x 170 up to 160 x 230 in size, mostly beige/taupe colours and my budget is £150 and thick enough to give our hard floor some cushioning.

Can anyone help?

The super cheap rugs in ikea are thin and scratchy. But there are plenty of nice, thick ones under £150 too.

Try the website Wayfair: they have a rug sale on atm and I am sure you might find something nice and a good selection of prices
(No conflict of interest here: I dont work for them but have used them to buy a few things in the past)

Tk maxx have some decent rugs within your budget.

We have a lovely, non-thin, non-scratchy rug from Ikea.

SyrilSneer Tue 20-Feb-18 14:18:40 are great. Shipped to me from USA in 3 days! The selection is huge and they have a load of really big area rugs which I was struggling to find on UK sites.

We got two large, plain thick pile rugs in Ikea recently. I think they were £80 or £90 each. They replaced the Ikea rugs we'd had for the previous 10+ years.

I always used to be a rug snob and think wool was better until I saw what clothes moths can do in a season and how they like to breed in the rugs and then migrate around the house chewing holes in anything with wool in it!

I have this Ikea rug. They don’t have the size down (£80) in this colour on their website though. It’s really nice.

We have an off-white adum rig from ikea too. DS2 spent many hours happily playing on it as a baby/toddler. He still lies on it now sometimes.

I've bought quite a few from here over the years - quick delivery and decent prices.

Rug not rig. If only I could type.

We have a nice rug from B&Q.

I got my rug from Next - it's about the same size as what you're looking for and is thick, has a sturdy backing and is really comfy. They've got loads in varying "fluffinesses" at the price you're after! smile

Tk maxx/homesense is always worth a look. Failing that try your local carpet shops. We got our "rug" for £20, it was actually one of the big display pieces of carpet from a shop. We commented that it would make a lovely rug so they sold it to us!

We just got a Slumber rug in Ivory from Dunelm just before Christmas and absolutely love it. It's so soft. Looks like the size you want would be £129. It's so soft DH often just lies on it when he's watching tele but he's a bit odd. Although it's one colour, the pile goes in all directions and shows the light differently so it doesn't look 'uniform' IYSWIM.

The teddy bear rugs from dunelm mill are the softest things ever (if you can excuse the horribly twee name!)

I have a big one in the lounge and the kids reckon 'it's as soft as a bed' (?!)

We've always had fluffy ikea rugs, really helps with spending lots of time sat down on the floor!

Sorry here's the link

Look at these - superb quality. I've had one (in a pale colour) down in my lounge for 4.5 years - and it's a walk through room between the kitchen and hall / bath room etc. So we are constantly walking on one edge of it - and it's only just starting to show some wear. It hoovers up like new too.

The biggest is 230 x 160 and £160.

I've seen big rugs in b&m this weekend for £20 upwards.
We picked a slightly smaller one because it has luxurious soft deep gold flecked pile. Its heavy and doesnt move around the room. £69.

Rugvista is great - really good free delivery & returns. They even gave me a choice of courier!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'll look through all these properly now.

Viceofreason - can you give me a link to the one you're talking about? It sounds Pro promising!
