Painful shoulder - any advice?

For a few months now I’ve had an intermittent pain in my right hand shoulder. It’s low level discomfort most of the time but every now and then (once every few weeks) it will become incredibly painful to the point that I can’t speak properly for fifteen minutes / half an hour (I can form words but it hurts so much I can’t focus and form full sentences). Then it gets better pretty quickly ... half an hour later I will genuinely feel fine. I do take over the counter painkillers for the acute pain but to be honest it never feels like they do much.

The pain itself is entirely concentrated to the front of my shoulder ... if you drew a line where my arm meets my body, down to my bra, that is the painful area. I have no pain anywhere else. When it is painful, I have the urge to keep swinging and moving my arm. I don’t recall any physical injuries at all and I am otherwise well.

Has anyone else experienced this? I know I should go to the doctor and I will make an appointment but if you have any advice in the meantime I’d love to hear it!

I've had frozen shoulder, but the pain was more constant than yours and by this time it had also frozen.

Really you need to ask a doctor.

Is that what frozen shoulder means then mrsf? Literally no movement?

Yes to MrsFantastic suggesting frozen shoulder. Please get it checked out as it starts slowly and then gets extremely painful. The medical term is called (from google) Adhesive capsulitis (also known as frozen shoulder) is a painful and disabling disorder of unclear cause in which the shoulder capsule, the connective tissue surrounding the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder, becomes inflamed and stiff, greatly restricting motion and causing chronic pain. Or it could be a rotator cuff problem or impingement. They are all awful, so please get checked out as soon as possible. The shoulder joints are very complicated. I had frozen shoulder both sides ( absolute nightmare ), and honestly wished I could just cut my arms off. Hope yours gets better soonflowers

I have had this several times and you have my sympathy, the only thing that I find gets it sorted properly is a chiropractor, 3 visits and it stops, It returned, but 4 years later, I went back and had it sorted.

@ThisIsSylviaDaisyPouncer How's the shoulder doing OP?

pah, if it's like my GP she still has to wait 2-3 weeks before her appt. Then another 6 wks to see a specialist or get an Xray (or other further option).
