I’ve got 27,000 unread emails to delete and it’s taking me ages.

I had over 28,000 so getting there.

Only have an iPad and it’s yahoo Mail......seems to be no way of selecting them all and deleting in big blocks. Am I missing something?

Honestly I’d just open a new email account, tell anybody I cared about the new address, and then never look at that yahoo one again.

Isn't there a 'select all' tick box anywhere?

Oldraver Tue 23-Jan-18 17:31:31

I use 'sweep' Click on the box at the side of the email say 'Monsoon', click sweep and it gives me the option to delete all Monsoon, delete and block and some others.

Or click box at the top and it will highlight and delete the top 17

And - just out of curiosity - how did you get 28,000 emails?!

Hawkmoth Tue 23-Jan-18 17:31:54

Login on safari?

MagentaRocks Tue 23-Jan-18 17:32:56

If you select an email and hold does it not give you the option of selecting multiple emails? I am also wondering how you got so many!

Majuna Tue 23-Jan-18 17:34:10

Oh god. Borrow a laptop or use the library p.c.

Unsubscribe to all the ones wanting you to spend money!

I have tried to sweep and it doesn't work

beautifulpheasant Tue 23-Jan-18 17:37:02

Do you have to delete? I haven't deleted any of mine. Argh shoukd I be deleting them. confused

MyBrilliantDisguise Tue 23-Jan-18 17:37:03

I thought mine was bad enough with 300+!

Mine's Yahoo. I agree it might be easier to start a new email address, but if you do want to keep the same one, then you can only highlight a page at a time, which is about 25 emails.

Are you getting emails from the same people? Are there people you can identify where you could just get rid of everything? For example, people from the same workplace? You could then search for them, highlight everything and delete.

Freshprincess Tue 23-Jan-18 17:39:04

If you're in the app, type the company name of The email at the top of your list in the search bar. It brings up all the ones from that company, then just go through them all and swipe right to delete each One.
Back to inbox and do the same thing for the next email.
Continue for the next six months

You may also consider unsubscribing to the stuff you've no interest in.

I've got over 70000+ unread. It stresses other people out when they see my phone but I'm so used to it now that I barely even notice. I wouldn't even know where to start. Or how this managed to happen in the first place

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree Tue 23-Jan-18 17:40:19

shock

VivaLeBeaver Tue 23-Jan-18 17:42:35

Would it be quicker on a proper computer? Could I select all then?

Can’t find anything to do a sweep, or to select all messages from a certain sender.

I must have nearly 15 years of emails.

Waterpixie Tue 23-Jan-18 17:42:38

Can you click on Edit, then mark all, then mark as read.
They'll still be there but as read emails so the number count will be gone.

VivaLeBeaver Tue 23-Jan-18 17:43:14

I’ve done all the unsubscribing now so think going forward it will be better.

Knittedfairies Tue 23-Jan-18 17:43:47

I had the same problem - with about the same number of emails! This is what I found worked:
*Go to Inbox, then Edit. Select top message which will highlight it.
*Press and hold the 'Move' button.
*Keep a finger on 'Move' and use another finger to uncheck the first message (the one you highlighted previously)
*Lift off all fingers and leave.
*Wait until the emails 'pile up' before deleting to the Trash bin. (May take a while...)
*Empty Trash in usual way (i.e. Edit, Delete All)

You may have to repeat the above a few times, but it worked for me.

MyBrilliantDisguise Tue 23-Jan-18 17:44:58

Viva, when you get an email from someone, there's a Search icon (magnifying glass) next to the email address. If you click on that you get every email they've sent you. Then you can click on the Select All button and they'll go.

MyBrilliantDisguise Tue 23-Jan-18 17:45:26

Select All and then Delete, of course.

Freshprincess Tue 23-Jan-18 17:46:28

It's very much easier on a PC. Do you want to keep any of them?

Believeitornot Tue 23-Jan-18 17:46:30

I have 32,000 blush

I cleared about 10k last week by going on to a PC, searching for various senders and deleting loads in a go by selecting all (after I’d searched for them).

I need to have another go when I get time!

Yahoo isn’t great for managing on the phone.

VivaLeBeaver Tue 23-Jan-18 17:47:01

And they’re all just going to be in my deleted folder aren’t they?

Have tried the thing with the senders name and the edit button but I still can’t select all, I have to select them all individually and then click delete.

VivaLeBeaver Tue 23-Jan-18 17:47:58

Will try on a computer tomorrow. I’m going to get RSI.

VivaLeBeaver Tue 23-Jan-18 17:52:28

They’re breeding. I got it down to 26,500 and now it’s over 27,000 again.
