£700 for 5 days plus loads more for extras!

We hired a beautiful place in Tuscany with hire car for two of us for two weeks for about the same. I'm used to cultural holidays.

I will hate it right?

RJnomore1 Sun 17-Dec-17 18:07:56

Yep.

You're on my wavelength abdxits my idea of utter hell.

Sister? Close friend?

ReinettePompadour Sun 17-Dec-17 18:08:34

Sounds like hell to me especially after watching The Hangover last night fgrin

HidingBehindTheWallpaper Sun 17-Dec-17 18:08:46

Sounds like a lot to ask someone to spend on a sodding hen do. Not to mention the time off work and away from family.

TheOriginalNNB Sun 17-Dec-17 18:09:19

I wouldn’t have the readies for a hen do like that. It’s a lot of money.

But I take issue with your sneering judgement of Vegas and boast of culture vulturism...

Toffeelatteplease Sun 17-Dec-17 18:10:22

Last Vegas for 5 daysleeps for £700 sounds like a bargain and a lot of fun. There's so much to see there

Hen party in Las Vegas sounds like hell.

NapQueen Sun 17-Dec-17 18:10:36

Any excuse to get away from the kids for a holiday I am so as long as i could afford it and was going with people I wanted to spend 5 days with id be up for it.

Never tried Vegas but imagine it has plenty culture to be explored, even if it isnt lakes and statues and vineyards etc.

Lindorismycrack Sun 17-Dec-17 18:10:57

I always find abroad ones kind of selfish, the expense, time off, pressure to go despite all of that. £700+ just for the hen party is crazy, can you skip it or is it someone's you kind of have to go to?

Bubblysqueak Sun 17-Dec-17 18:10:59

You might be surprised. My usual holiday (pre dc) was art galleries, touring old cities and museums. Hated the idea.of Vegas as not a gambler but went for 3 days during a road trip for honeymoon as dh wanted to go. I absouletly loved it and didn't want to leave. Loved the shows and the atmosphere and didn't spend too much either.

Zampa Sun 17-Dec-17 18:11:09

Vegas is awesome! I love a "cultural" holiday as much as the next person but Vegas is something else.

The restaurants are amazing (the buffet at the Wynn and breakfast at Paris were 2 of my favourites). You can spend hours walking up and down the Strip, people watching. Grand Canyon is worth a trip too. Plus the shows are good.

It's a ridiculously expensive hen do but that's a different story ...

lastqueenofscotland Sun 17-Dec-17 18:12:10

That's cheap as fuck for vegas...

It is a hellhole though

EllaHen Sun 17-Dec-17 18:12:17

Snowball's chance in hell I would go to Vegas, let alone on a hen do.

You are a far greater person than I if you do go.

NapQueen Sun 17-Dec-17 18:13:08

Dont you get free drinks if on the slots? Id be putting 5cents in the cheapest ones I could find while ordering free cocktails on a loop.

cakesonatrain Sun 17-Dec-17 18:13:27

700 quid for a hen do is fucking ridiculous.
I couldn't get past that to even consider just how awful it would be.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper Sun 17-Dec-17 18:13:36

I agree that £700 for 5 days in Vegas is good value, but I would only be happy to pay for this if I chose to go and I wanted to. Not that it was expected of me.

I do agree with past posters that ‘I’m used to cultural holidays’ does sound very sneering.

billybagpuss Sun 17-Dec-17 18:15:51

I'm very much a house in Tuscany kind of girl but Vegas is just soooo out there, its great smile

The swimming pool complexes are amazing, you have the Grand Canyon easy distance away - stunningly beautiful. Lake Powell at the top of the canyon is one of my favourite places on earth. Its not all alcohol and partying.

Go with an open mind and have a fab time.

meep87 Sun 17-Dec-17 18:15:51

Sounds like great fun! If I could afford it and it was with people I wanted to spend time with I'd go. But if you know it won't be your thing don't spend £700 on it.

Viviennemary Sun 17-Dec-17 18:15:53

I think it sounds good fun. Never been there but would like to someday. But Tuscany sounds lovely too. Never been there either. Still it is a lot to spend on a hen do if you don't like the idea of gambling the night away.

billybagpuss Sun 17-Dec-17 18:17:32

the only issue I did have is they still allow smoking on casino floors which in some of the older casino's was yuck as the air was a bit stale. But we don't gamble so never spent any time there.

Nyx1 Sun 17-Dec-17 18:18:30

depends what they plan to do

Vegas does have good shows, lovely art galleries, the Lake Las Vegas area and the Grand Canyon isn't too far away.

but if they want to do stuff that's not for you, different again. Also, the Strip can be ...interesting. If they want to just get hammered in a plastic type of place...well we only saw the inside of one of those for about 10 minutes - it was kind of an accident! - that will not be great.

also, we met a stag group when we were they and they were amazed we'd managed to find some decent bars - I think they got taken in by a lot of stuff that was marketed and those groups though and didn't realise how seedy seedy could be. So if anywhere says "seedy" I guess don't underestimate how awful it can be! But there's definitely nice places.

Thesecondtoast Sun 17-Dec-17 18:18:36

I actually enjoyed Vegas more than I thought I would. There were art galleries, exhibitions, the grand canyon, the Hoover Dam quite close by. Not sure about it for a hen night though.

Nyx1 Sun 17-Dec-17 18:19:24

*plastic should say - plastic cups.

never go anywhere that only does booze in plastic cups!!!

dudsville Sun 17-Dec-17 18:25:01

I hate hen do's. I like holidays with friends. Are they friends? You could rent a car and head out to the desert.

GreyMorning Sun 17-Dec-17 18:25:05

You sound like me, BUT I did Vegas for 4 days for a friend's birthday a few years ago and really enjoyed it! It's an experience. A few days is enough and you loose all concept of reality but I would probably go again, I'd like to take my husband as he would also think he'd hate it but actually enjoy it!

papayasareyum Sun 17-Dec-17 18:28:05

Vegas is amazing. If you go there and don’t enjoy it, check your pulse. You might be dead.
