Nice cheeses, good crackers, chutney, blinis, olives and antipasta things like artichokes. What am I missing? I don't mind making a bit of effort.

I love anything with a prawn.

Posh crisps

Homemade biscuits for cheese, e.g. With Gouda and chives. I am looking for a recipe atm.

And German Kaiserelisen - luxury Lebkuchen made without flour - exquisite

A cheese and pineapple hedgehog 😂

Whitney168 Sat 16-Dec-17 15:04:06

We often do huge buffets where everyone and anyone brings 'stuff' and all share.

You laugh at the cheese & pineapple hedgehog, Lily2007, but people fall on them like ravening hordes at every mixed buffet I've ever been to. My friend gets run out of town if she doesn't turn up with her C&PH these days LOL.

Cheese & biscuits always dead popular, with nice chutneys.

Good home-made sausage rolls.

On an easy basis, M&S cheese straws and Walkers Sensations Thai Chilli are my shop-bought nibbles of choice.

Let me know if you find a recipe @Harebellmeadow

I love a cheese and pineapple hedgehog! I also have a friend who often makes one so I never have to!

Johnnycomelately1 Sat 16-Dec-17 15:10:08

Yep. The hedgehog always goes. I do them for kids parties and they are so popular. So happy I’ve shared this great British tradition with kids of Asia.

BarbaraofSevillle Sat 16-Dec-17 15:18:41

Yes, cheese and pineapple is very popular. I did one as a bit of a joke for a summer barbecue and it lasted about 2 minutes and I was searching the back of the cupboards for more pineapple.

You need some smoked fish eg smoked salmon
Homemade pate goes down well
We like a bit of sushi
Little sausages - kids and adults alike
Things on sticks together - a cheese cube (eg Stilton, goat, feta, mozzarella) or ham ( eg Serrano, Parma ), a veg ( eg cherry tomato, celery, cucumber, cornichon ), a drizzle (eg ex v oo, balsamic syrup, honey, maple, mango chutney ) , seasoning.

Growingboys Sat 16-Dec-17 15:21:21

Good suggestions, Taffeta. I'd def come to your party.

Devils on horseback, i.e. prunes wrapped in streaky bacon.

AnneLovesGilbert Sat 16-Dec-17 15:27:43

Balsamic glaze/syrup makes everything amazing.

doodlejump1980 Sat 16-Dec-17 15:27:56

Bread! Tiger bread, lots of salty butter. Lush

mrsm43s Sat 16-Dec-17 15:42:19

For buffets, I also do a huge cheeseboard, quiches, poached side of salmon, a gammon, a prawn ring, crudite with dip, and a host of cakes/puds eg trifle, banoffee pie etc. And if it's Christmas themed, which I presume it is,then I do a gingerbread house and a Christmas cake, plus bowls of big tub sweets..

Breadsticks wrapped in smoked salmon with a horseradish and crime fraiche dip

TossDaily Sat 16-Dec-17 15:46:20

I like individual Yorkshire puds. I stuff them with cream cheese mixed with horseradish and smoked salmon, or tiny bits of roast beef and gravy. Or a cocktail sausage and gravy. Or turkey and stuffing. The possibilities are endless.

We have a big family buffet on Boxing Day at a relative’s house, about 35 of us all together age 0 - 85

Things that always go down well....

Good quality chipolata sausages cooked in honey and mustard
A cooked ham cut into chunks (we cook ours in pineapple juice, cloves and honey)
Potato wedges
Cheese and crackers
Homemade cheese straws
Pickled onion and cheese on sticks
Good quality bread
Boiled salad potatoes with a little butter, salt and chives on

AnneLovesGilbert Sat 16-Dec-17 16:03:24

What veggie fillings could you put in yorkshire puddings? And are they full size or little ones?

Amazing ideas, thank you.

AntoniaCaenis Sat 16-Dec-17 16:07:02

Chorizo and prawn kebabs
Bite size pavlova with mulled fruit

AntoniaCaenis Sat 16-Dec-17 16:08:58

Fish goujons and tartare sauce
Look for the smoked hummus ( from Waitrose)

AntoniaCaenis Sat 16-Dec-17 16:10:31

Maybe mushroom, chestnut and cranberry filling in yorkshires for veggies? Or Stilton, leek and walnut?

AnneLovesGilbert Sat 16-Dec-17 16:15:23

Stilton, leek and walnut sounds incredible.

RestingGrinchFace Sat 16-Dec-17 16:20:04

Goats curd and figs. Maybe a baked Camembert too (if you are a fatty like me)
