Does anyone else's workplace descend into anarchy at this time of year?

I don't know what it is, but there is always a lack of festive joy.

The key issues are always
- who is working Christmas day
- who has got time off for their child's Christmas play
- where the good stapler is
- the Secret Santa
- the night out

It's like Lord of the Flies. Everyone is crying and shrieking.

fconfused

You should try being a teacher wink

Yes I was about to say, yes, I work in a school!

RafaIsTheKingOfClay Thu 14-Dec-17 20:23:26

You have a good stapler?

Where do I find one of these things?

GummyGoddess Thu 14-Dec-17 20:24:37

You forgot the constant shrieking of "Those are all my presents those are!" as a funny joke about the secret santa gifts about 50 times a day.

saltnvinegartaytos Thu 14-Dec-17 20:24:38

I don't have the good stapler. I last saw the good stapler at 15.30 on a Tuesday in November. I am looking for the good stapler.

It staples very nicely.

We are all waiting to find out bonuses. Everyone is on tenderhooks and the stress levels are insanely high.

KindergartenKop Thu 14-Dec-17 20:24:48

To be fair though, all the teachers get Xmas day off.

Hassled Thu 14-Dec-17 20:25:41

Not before this year but I'm in a new workplace and they're all becoming more and more fucking nuts the closer we get to Christmas. It was positively giddy today.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 Thu 14-Dec-17 20:26:16

We're just even more jolly this time of year smile

Did people have on 'fun' jumpers?

HoosierDaddy Thu 14-Dec-17 20:28:56

I got permission to order a nice 50 page stapler today... season of goodwill is in full flow here

sammassammas Thu 14-Dec-17 20:29:52

Where are the dips/coleslaw/carrots? Where they have been all fucking year, you know this I see you shopping twice a week! And yes it is very busy today that's because it nearly bloody Christmas!
Àaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

jennielou75 Thu 14-Dec-17 20:32:27

I have my name engraved on my stapler because if it gets 'borrowed' again!!! Today was jumper day with some santa leggings for measure. Can't wait till we break up next week!

MrGrumpy01 Thu 14-Dec-17 20:37:30

Well my section is grumpy all year round so about the same.

Though I am off tomorrow do miss Christmas party prep and jumper day.

We are closed over Christmas and people moan because they want to come in.

Foxyloxy1plus1 Thu 14-Dec-17 20:39:44

To be fair though, all the teachers get Xmas day off.

So they do, but they never get a bonus. Or a stapler that works. The office staff have those, unless you want to risk using the copier that staples.

BattleaxeGalactica Thu 14-Dec-17 20:40:05

Yes.

Another who works in a school but would currently prefer an easier gig like herding cats.

KindergartenKop Thu 14-Dec-17 20:45:26

Oh I know. No staplers that work in my school and your own kids' nativity? Naah, you can go whistle.

BarbaraofSevillle Thu 14-Dec-17 20:45:45

I've got the good stapler. It's so old that it was made in England and I inherited it 20 years ago when a colleague left. I also got the matching hole punch.

They're both locked in my office drawer and will probably see me to retirement in another 15-20 years time. Ask me nicely and one of you can have them. They will probably outlast all the newer rubbishy ones.

We're lucky to close after Christmas but our Office Martyr is already fretting about cleaning out the fridge next Friday afternoon. If something gets left in there that goes out of date over the holiday, it will ruin her time off I tell you.

BarbaraofSevillle Thu 14-Dec-17 20:46:49

For clarity, I'm not giving up the good stapler until I retire, I'm not offering it out sooner.

saltnvinegartaytos Thu 14-Dec-17 20:47:31

I got permission to order a nice 50 page stapler today

Ooooooooooh.

saltnvinegartaytos Thu 14-Dec-17 20:48:24

Oh God almighty, THE FRIDGE. How did I forget that bone of contention.

TBF, it is the same folk leaving their grime encrusted mugs all of the time.

BarbaraofSevillle Thu 14-Dec-17 20:48:46

Close over Christmas FFS. Oh for an edit function.

Shenanagins Thu 14-Dec-17 20:48:47

Wow a good stapler, I had heard strange tales of such mythical things but thought they were folklore.

HoosierDaddy Thu 14-Dec-17 20:52:16

I will film its maiden voyage when it arrives
