Nursery deposit

We have paid a registration fee and upon receiving an offer for a place we are asked to pay a full terms' fees (approx £3k) as a deposit refundable when we withdraw our dc from there, provided we give a full terms' notice.

Is this the norm?

Is this the second time you have asked this today?

The answer is still no, definitely not normal for the average nursery. If it's a really posh one it might be though.

Justthejist yes it is, need to make a payment asap and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Getting more than 2 replies would hopefully help me decide whether we pay, challenge it or just look somewhere else.

Not for us. I think our deposit was about £50. I only have experience of one nursery though.

Blimey. We paid £50 deposit to secure ds’s place about 10 months in advance, then 1 month’s fees when he started!

This was 8 years ago, in West Yorkshire.

I'm not sure whether it's a very posh one or not. It is central London but it's not Miss Delaney's. The waiting list 2 months long, not 3 years.

How do you pay your fees? If termly yes it's normal, if monthly no.

I would expect to pay a month in advance.

Gosh no not normal here. I wouldn't have a spare 3k to hand.

Yes normal in London. It’s not negotiable.
