Cooking with shallots for the first time - do I cook them the same as normal onions?

Posted on chat for traffic, but do I take all the outside skin off, or just the ‘loose’ parts, or off altogether ?
Making a sausage casserole for tea tonight. Mmmmm..
Any advice appreciated 💐

Remove the brown papery skin and any root then use as onion. I often use small shallots whole in casseroles.

I would only use them whole. So not the same as onion which I would always chop or slice.
Enjoy your casserole!
