What is the worst thing about Christmas?

I've just started putting my Christmas tree up - I know, it's still early blush
I forgot how much of a piss take it is to spread all of the branches out. Stupid artificial piece of crap. It's top of my list for the worst thing about christmas.
Also getting covered in glitter from the decorations and then having to Hoover every inch of the house confused
What is your worst thing?

All the fucking threads all over MN from August discussing “getting organised” for Christmas

Live a little FFS and stop making 4-6 months of the year about one day

TheLuminaries Sun 19-Nov-17 18:09:01

Family. Also my best thing.
You shouldn't put your tree up in November, an elf will die.

Keep the threads to the Christmas topic

It's way too early to put the tree up

Betsy86 Sun 19-Nov-17 18:09:26

Omg thats exactly how i was an hour ago lol!!!! Was bored doingbthe branches then absolutely covered in glitter. Looks fab now though i dont care if its too early i had a free few hours today and thought id get on with it.

Another slight annoyance is baubles etc..... that come without the string already threaded tipped some new ones out earlier and had to thread them all was highly irritating and im lazy grin

The weather.

I'd enjoy it far more in the Summer.

Shen0102 Sun 19-Nov-17 18:11:04

Non-christians who just celebrate it for the gifts... everyone seems to get religious when it suites them..

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 Sun 19-Nov-17 18:11:34

The shopping crowds.

Justmuddlingalong Sun 19-Nov-17 18:12:20

Enforced socialising. I've already given my apologies. 😉

Betsy86 Sun 19-Nov-17 18:12:21

Not sure why people have to be grumpy when others put the tree up either as to be fair its only 11 days until the 1st dec when it magically becomes acceptable.
With the mix of work school etc the weeks are passing really fast so no reason not to make a head start if you get a chance to

ColinsVeryJolly Sun 19-Nov-17 18:12:27

Totally agree with you on the tree branches, I get so wound up by it. Plus I have dermographism so the branches rub on my arms as I'm doing it and leave them looking a right mess.

Other than that, the worst thing is it all being over. sad

IHaveBrilloHair Sun 19-Nov-17 18:12:40

I have to pay for it.

Ecureuil Sun 19-Nov-17 18:13:07

All the threads on here about it from October, plus more threads for a few weeks after Christmas moaning about what Christmas presents people got bought/didn’t get bought.

Montythespookymouse Sun 19-Nov-17 18:13:45

Knowing you're teen is going to go back to school with kids who will all have iPhone, beats and designer stuff and gadgets and asking what each other got and knowing your kid will get nothing anywhere near that.

Allwashedup Sun 19-Nov-17 18:14:56

Everything apart from pretty lights. It's a commercialised greedfest. Can't wait for it to be over.

dementedma Sun 19-Nov-17 18:15:18

The long boring gap between Christmas and getting back to work and normality.

ProseccoMamam Sun 19-Nov-17 18:16:35

The worst thing about Christmas is people putting their tree up in November

Yes you, OP angry

formerbabe Sun 19-Nov-17 18:16:47

The cost.

The weight gain.

Wiggypudding Sun 19-Nov-17 18:17:45

The fact that it gets earlier each year, not helped by people wetting their knickers to put the tree up in mid November

isittheholidaysyet Sun 19-Nov-17 18:19:15

Having to celebrate it throughout advent.
Then, when Christmas finally starts, most people stop celebrate just as I'm starting!

irregularegular Sun 19-Nov-17 18:22:16

People who put up their trees/decs far too early! Two weeks before Xmas is plenty. November is inexcusable.

Excessive, pointless spending on wasteful presents. Pressure on those who can't really afford it to spend lots of money on those presents. But also excessive spending by those who can spend it but really should know better.

I hate huge present opening marathons. They make me feel slightly queasy. We've cut it down to a fairly sensible level here now I think.

The Christmas tree is one of my very favourite bits of Christmas. Has to be a real one. Love most Christmas food, most socialising. But also specially love a few quiet days between Christmas and New Year when we stay at home, do jigsaws and games, winter walks, simple cosy food, very very low key meet ups with friends,

Babababababybel23 Sun 19-Nov-17 18:22:54

I'm not desperate to put it up I just know won't have time at the beginning of december so it is easier to do it now.
I don't see how it would make a difference to anyone who doesn't live in my house so why do people get so annoyed grin

Bookaboo Sun 19-Nov-17 18:23:25

Non-christians who just celebrate it for the gifts... everyone seems to get religious when it suites them..

Well if you want be like that, you could be annoyed at Christians hijacking a midwinter festival.

Awoof Sun 19-Nov-17 18:24:53

Not being with the people I love the most. Sorry I know it's light hearted. I love Christmas but nowadays I feel like I have a lump in my throat when it rolls around.
I do feel very fortunate to spend Xmas eve and morning with gorgeous dd though so not all bad smile
