Meal planning conundrum-very minor.

The number of people I am feeding this week and the days I am feeding them on has changed. My freezer is full. I have already shopped.

I was going to make a Hairy Bikers chicken and sausage tray bake for 8 people tonight, but I'm now only feeding 2 tonight and 6 on Tuesday. If I make it today, use some and fridge the rest it'll still be OK to use on Tuesday, won't it?

I wouldn't keep left overs for anymore than 48hrs to be honest. Can you freeze some?

Ohyesiam Sun 19-Nov-17 09:04:52

72 hours is my rule. But you could freeze it if not sure.

I would absolutely use food cooked today on Tuesday. As long as it’s reheated thoroughly it’ll be fine.
(Or, get takeaway today and make it fresh on Tuesday.)

Er, I keep leftovers for 5 days, often! Also, making today and eating Tuesday is 24 hours. So, without knowing the recipe and its reheating potential, it will be fine I reckon.

Is 48 hours, not 24!!!

Jumpyroo Sun 19-Nov-17 09:09:27

Ha, so it is...I thought today was Saturday grin

It'll be fine smile 3 day rule here! Heat it through properly and it'll be grand.

BendingSpoons Sun 19-Nov-17 09:12:03

We regularly keep things for 5 (sometimes more blush) days and just heat thoroughly. Tue should be fine!

Wishful thinking...

BertrandRussell Sun 19-Nov-17 09:16:30

Thank you. I wouldn't think twice if it was just my children, but it's other people's!

BikeRunSki Sun 19-Nov-17 09:16:33

I batch cook on Mondays for the rest of the week. By Saturday, the food is 6 days old and fine.

treaclesoda Sun 19-Nov-17 09:18:42

I think today until Tuesday, stored in the fridge is fine. I tend to think 3 days is the maximum, but base that entirely on the fact that most pre-packed things say 'consume within 3 days of opening' so I've just taken that as a guideline.

TheFallenMadonna Sun 19-Nov-17 09:19:27

So is it a more specific question about this recipe then? In which case I have no advice... Sounds nice though!

TheFallenMadonna Sun 19-Nov-17 09:20:30

Oh, for some reason I thought BikeRunSki was you. Off to get more coffee...blush

BertrandRussell Sun 19-Nov-17 09:36:45

No, it's not the specific recipe. It's just feeding other people's kids-I''m usually much more scrupulous than with my own!
