on actual long bit of neck under jaw area but on the neck. small. Felt uncomfortable every so slightly for weeks today I thought I am going to get to bottom of it and found small lump.

Now I am going hot and cold, sick with worry and can really really feel it now sad got docs appt this afternoon and google is making me catastrophic. I had a lump by c section scar and loads of people on here gave me other options and helped me.

It is most likely a swollen gland showing you are a bit under the weather, although you are right to get it checked out. Do you have any other symptoms? Fever?

Not under weather at all, feel fine sad no other symptoms. I did an awkward reach a few months ago and sort of pulled neck mussel I so I assumed it was just that but its been a long while now.

IF you are thinking it might be a lymphoma, they are lower down, around the clavicle.

I have had lymph node issues for two years and had Biopsies, scans etc.

Where yours is positioned, it's probably, gland/lymph node because of a reaction to an illness, or a infection/virus being present.

I have had one on the side of my neck for 18 years (that I know of) . I found it after ready something about cancer and looking for swollen lymph glands. Paniced and went to GP. Was referred to specialist at hospital who said it was nothing. I am assuming after 18 years he was right. You can't see it and I have to poke around to find it.

Colleague has something similar. Been to the doctor with it recently. It's a swollen gland. Comes up if she has been viral at all (even though she doesn't know she's viral) and disappears again for a while. She is having is scanned as she is a worrier but the doctor doesn't think it's anything.

X post, a pulled muscle would explain it.

You might be sent for an ultrasound, to start with.

Thanks.

I am not 100% sure where glands are as never really had issues with glands or tonsils etc. But feeling actually under jaw is fine its on long part of neck .Googling has said reaction to virus but I feel fine, if there for a while more likely to be something ....

From where you say it is it sounds like a gland but another possibility is a cyst. I went to the doctor with a lump in my neck a few weeks ago and like you had been googling disaster scenarios (mine was pea sized and hard). Doctor was pretty sure it was a cyst which would probably go away by itself but said she'd refer me if I wanted to have it looked at. I took the referral letter but due to holidays didn't follow it up and sure enough it's now disappeared.
Try not to worry - you are doing the right thing by having it checked out and there's no point panicking in the meantime.

Thanks Lulu Jakey.

The other thing that concerns me is for my other lump ( had scans etc on c section scar) and had cancer blood test and reading was high, doc said that it was fine and because it was still under the line for cancer nothing to worry about - but it did worry me.

I cant remember exact figures but say cut off is 34 mine was 28

autumnintheair Fri 20-Oct-17 15:34:23

Again thanks mass. Mine is softer rather than hard.

Its the waiting, that gets me, I have been in and out for two years with the other lump! I went in before xmas to see doc and had to wait till second week of feb for a scan!

Google dr is not your friend! Everything beers toward a serious illness and my gp has seriously warned me off looking at google as it makes people have anxiety!

ok FEEL massively relieved went to doctors he had a feel and said he can feel a lump but it doesn't feel like anything in particular then he said its not your bla, not your xyz BUT of course there is the lymph something running down neck hmm

I said " of course google has thrown up lymph cancer" he rubbished that but said dont poke it - keep an eye if its still there in 4 weeks come back.
Now I feel massively relieved, however I am also wondering as feeling a lump isnt an exact science should I try and get second opinion next week? Its just it has been here for a few weeks and waiting a few weeks more can mean a lot if it is the big C?

Not sure what to do, I dont know much about these things but if for instance cancerous lumps have a particular feel....then I would feel more reassured.

I was at the dr's last week with a lump on my neck behind my ear. I thought it was a lymph node but he said as it's free moving and close to the surface that it is not a node but a cyst and shoud disappear in time.

Try not to worry but if you are, then a second opinion would put your mind at ease.

It'll be a gland. My DS has had one on his neck for years - it came up really big and red during a particularly revolting cold/cough/ear/throat infection that we all had and has never quite gone all the way back down again, and it pops back up at the first hint that he's got a virus or if he's a bit tired or run down and then takes forever to shrink. Apparently some glands just become sensitive/over-reactive. He's a healthy, athletic 10-year-old with no other problems.

I have two lumps on my neck, the doctor said they were nothing to worry about. I had an ultrasound done on them at hospital as they hadn't gone away after a few months but they were OK and nothing sinister. Both the doctor and the consultant seemed to know and say they were non cancerous by feeling them but the ultrasound was more reassuring for me.

Thanks everyone flowers

I may go and get second opinion next week but I do feel a little reassured, I just wish we could all get our own home testing kits! Find lump, scan - clear YES, great immediate relief - not good news - great get Immediate help!
