ice cream - tub or cone?

We always buy tubs with little spoons. Far less messy and the kids think you get more ice cream than you do in a cone. Growing up, we always had cones.

So cones or tubs - what's better and why?

Tubs definitely, far less mess and I don't always like the taste of the cones, must vary between makes. Obviously make an exception for a 99 or a Cornetto tho!

Always tubs.

Cones, always!!

Cones are better for the environment as there are no tubs or plastic spoons to dispose of afterwards (and a dog that we previously had really liked getting the cone).

I prefer cones - the ultimate biodegradable container!

Always tubs here. Too few ice cream handlers not wearing gloves whilst holding the cone and handling money at the same time.

Cones. I like to get my money's worth. I don't like those waffle sugar cones though.

Loved the cones .. still do!

I don't mind the biscuity waffle cones but the orange wafery ones are grim.

Hadn't really considered the environmental impact of the tubs and spoons but that is definitely something to think of regarding the waste.

Ds3 loves cones but he holds it that tight and let's it drip everywhere then the cone collapses in the middle. Rahhhhh!

SweetPeaPods Thu 19-Oct-17 20:29:40

Tubs every time

MsPassepartout Thu 19-Oct-17 20:30:58

Cones. Less rubbish left afterwards.

Tubs, partly because can't always get GF cones and partly because too many times DD's cone has broken and she's lost the ice cream on the floor. Sometimes I get it in a tub but then put the cone on top to get the best of both worlds.

Tubs. Don't really like the taste of a cone, although used to love oysters as a child which I suspect were the exact same thing in a different shape! You don't tend to see those nowadays.

a waffle cone or a tub. not one of those awful wafer cones though !

Now I’m an adult it’s tuba. With a cone I get all anxious that the ice cream will melt over my hands and cone will go soggy before I get chance to scoff it all 😩

A tuba full of ice cream? In my dreams....

Leeds2 I'm sure I've seen the oyster things recently. I only go to a handful of shops so it could possibly be Lidl or Home Bargains.

Cone. You can't eat a tub!
Waffle cone if available. With a double scoop so they push it down the cone and you can get two flavours. Yum.

Tub. Don't like the taste of cones and I think they're kind of wasted calories IYSWIM, I'd prefer extra ice cream smile I find all the dripping way too stressful with a cone, and I still remember my ice cream scoop falling off once when I was a child - the horror! Prefer my ice cream to be safely contained in a tub so I can eat every last drop smile

I'd say tub unless it was a Mr Whippy on offer, I'd be all over that like a rash.
