First off this is lighthearted - I'm not going to open the letter but oh dear god I want to!

Da has applied for a life changing experience - over 200 kids applied and they take 30.

The bloody letter has arrived with his results and I want to know NOW - not wait till he gets back from school!!!! And I'm working this evening with no access to a phone so I won't know til I get home around midnight!!!!

It's sitting on the kitchen table and looking at me..........I've thought about steaming it open but I promised I wouldn't open it and would leave it for him......,wahhhhh!

Is it for a trip somewhere? 200 kids applying indicates to me some kind of school trip abroad. You're gonna have to at least tell us what the life changing experience is grin

Sometimes the thickness of the letter is a clue ...

thicker is good. Rejection usually just one sheet of paper.

You've got to go out - otherwise it'll keep giving you the eye!

Oh yes, I was going to say that. Small or large envelope? One piece of paper thick or more?

Steam it open grin

It's for the scouting world jamboree- held every 4 years and this is the only one he will be in the right age group to apply for. Had selection weekend a couple of weeks ago and they were told they would be sent a letter in due course.

Unfortunately it is a small envelope and only the thickness of a single sheet so I think it's thanks but no thanks sad he's going to be so gutted......

Of course I could be wrong in which case fingers crossed - I just want to know either way!

What’s it for OP? As if it’s what I think it is, there’s a potential way you could find out without opening the letter <taps nose>

TheFlandersPigeonMurderer Tue 17-Oct-17 13:50:28

X-post, that’s what I thought.
I’ll send you a PM smile

Have you got a dog?

Give it to the dog to chew open. Not then your fault if you see what's in it! grin

ItsNachoCheese Tue 17-Oct-17 13:52:33

HidingBehindTheWallpaper Tue 17-Oct-17 13:53:11

Or it could be 'congratulations - expect further details to come later'.

Can you hold it up to the light, accidentally of course.

whojamaflip Tue 17-Oct-17 13:53:21

Flanders - really???

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Tue 17-Oct-17 13:53:23

I'd steam it open but I have very few morals.

whojamaflip Tue 17-Oct-17 13:54:02

Can't hold up to the light cos it's a sodding brown envelope!

whojamaflip Tue 17-Oct-17 13:54:48

I have text him to tell him it's arrived and just got back "DONT OPEN IT!

WinteryWalk Tue 17-Oct-17 13:56:22

Your son's trust is more important than your urge! Don't do it!

GeekyWombat Tue 17-Oct-17 13:59:17
