19 after an elderly relative died & left me some money which became my deposit. Somehow I talked the bank manager into giving me a mortgage when I had no job & planned on letting a room to a friend. He told me to get a temping job, so I did for 4 weeks hmm.

Aged 22, thanks to an inheritance.

I was 24 and have had it for 10 years now.
100% mortgage so no saving for a deposit but literally 3 months later it was worth £10k less than I paid for it due to the banking crash and now im still in about £5k of negative equity even though I've been paying the mortgage for 10 years.
We grew out of it as a family and have been forced to rent it out and rent a bigher house because we can't sell it due to the negative equity.

Owning hasn't worked out for me. Renting is pretty awesome!

Aged 26 in London in 1998. I sold it 3 years later with a 60% profit. It was a really lucky move and I was so terrified at every stage but obvs am glad now that I jumped when I did!

I was 19. But that was 28 years ago, back in the days of 100% mortgages.

I bought a flat in London aged 23 in 1995. Sold for a good profit two years later but I suspect that's small change to what I'd get now.

Bought house in Kent three years later with dh.

No mortgage now.

3 years ago aged 26

1970 when I was 18. It cost £2,700 and repayments were £22.88 a month and I earned £20 a week as a temp secretary. How times have changed!

Elllicam Tue 26-Sep-17 17:40:34

About 12 years ago. I was 23, it went down in value but then picked back up and I sold at a profit. My husband bought at the same time and is still in negative equity so we rent his out.

I am 26 and probably half way there in terms of saving for deposit! Hoping to be able to buy in 1-2 years with the help of lodging at parents for a while.

Why are houses so expensive envy

shaggedthruahedgebackwards Tue 26-Sep-17 17:40:37
