What does this combination of emojis mean?

On several threads recently I've seen people post an emoji of a woman (or a person at least) and the symbol for female next to it. What does it mean???

I guess the topic of the thread would give some pointers. I've not seem it myself.

It's some kind of error I think. The emoji they're using won't upload properly.

Could you post a link, I’ve not seen that.

Someone posted it on this thread tonight:

It's definitely an error. It's showing on my phone as an empty box with a female symbol next to it.

Looks like this to me:

Here's how it is on mine:

It's supposed to be a woman shrugging her shoulders

I've been wondering the same! Often the threads of comments are in no way related to feminism. I don't get it.

Anyone know what it's for?

The woman emoji isn’t showing up for some people because it’s an iphone emoji.
As for the other one I have no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️

Basically there are some new emojis that on new gadgets appear as one, but 'under the hood' they're a combination of two characters and older gadgets show the two characters separately.

Sorry, I got distracted. It shows up on my Kindle Fire like this. Anyway, now I know it's simply a woman shrugging, when before I thought it was a feminist thing. Thanks.

Shows up as this on my ipad- a woman holding her hands up as if she is confused

It’s a mix up between the coding used for androids and that for iPhones - just a woman shrugging
