Creepy nursery Dad

I WFH so generally when I drop my toddler off at nursery I am in slobby clothes - leggings, jeans, sweatshirt, no make up.

Today I have a meeting to go to so I was wearing a dress etc at drop off. One of the Dads dropping off his own kid who I know to say hi to but have never chatted to really said "Ooh, you're groomed. Nice."

Was this not creepy?! I don't even know him.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface Thu 21-Sep-17 09:10:30

A compliment, surely?

SumThucker Thu 21-Sep-17 09:11:32

Hardly creepy, was he rubbing his crotch as he said it?

AntiHop Thu 21-Sep-17 09:11:39

Urgh. Random man making a comment on a woman's appearance. Creepy.

DrinkFeckArseGirls Thu 21-Sep-17 09:12:03

You look nice would suffice. Groomed?

StarfishSeahorse Thu 21-Sep-17 09:13:52

Is this a stealth boast that you look fab even when you're not trying?

ParsnipLeekAndLemonSoup Thu 21-Sep-17 09:14:18

I don't want to be complimented by a random stranger.

Is this a stealth boast that you look fab even when you're not trying?

Haha hardly, if anything he was saying most of the time I look like shit.

RunningOutOfCharge Thu 21-Sep-17 09:16:14

What's the actual problem?

You are sounding ridiculous!

WorraLiberty Thu 21-Sep-17 09:17:01

I don't want to be complimented by a random stranger.

That's really not anyone else's problem.

Small talk/compliments etc are just part of everyday human interaction, therefore I'd say it's up to you to learn to deal with it.

Tessticklesyourfancy Thu 21-Sep-17 09:18:58

Would you have thought it creepy, if the same comment was made by another mum at drop off?

NearLifeExperience Thu 21-Sep-17 09:19:04

It's like when someone says "Wow, you look nice!" in a surprised tone of voice, from which you can infer that you usually look like crap!
I think these clumsy 'compliments' are just a surprised reaction to how different you look. Not necessarily creepy or backhanded compliments.

SumThucker Thu 21-Sep-17 09:19:25

You can't control other people unfortunately. I'd err on the side of him just making conversation and trying to be nice rather than write him off as a creepy dad.

RunningOutOfCharge Thu 21-Sep-17 09:20:30

What was 'creepy' about this?

BitchQueen90 Thu 21-Sep-17 09:23:24

Doesn't sound creepy to me. A bit rude though.

SleepingStandingUp Thu 21-Sep-17 09:23:57

Its a bit rude - inference that you don't normally both. Would need to know tone to make it creepy. Eyes roaming all over you etc then crepepy

ParsnipLeekAndLemonSoup Thu 21-Sep-17 09:24:58

If he had honked at me and yelled it out of a van, would that also have been a compliment?

Wheresmytaco Thu 21-Sep-17 09:25:00

Is this a stealth boast that you look fab even when you're not trying?

Yeah, man being creepy is a great boast. Is your self esteem really that low that any weird man talking about your appearance is a good thing?

That's what all these posts read as.

Fucking weird.

Yanbu op. Creepy inappropriate

OldEnglishSheepDog Thu 21-Sep-17 09:25:01

Can't believe so many people think it's entirely acceptable to comment on other people's appearance. It's not just interaction. It's unnecessary and discomforting.

Wheresmytaco Thu 21-Sep-17 09:25:37

Yes, nice tits shouted from a builder must also be a compliment.

WorraLiberty Thu 21-Sep-17 09:26:17

But she doesn't normally look groomed

The OP herself describes her casual clothes as 'slobby' confused

This time she looked groomed and was complimented on it.

There's nothing 'rude' or 'creepy' about that for goodness sake.

FleurWeasley Thu 21-Sep-17 09:26:19

Groomed is a weird word to use about a human. He might be kicking himself for saying something so weird!

RunningOutOfCharge Thu 21-Sep-17 09:26:23

Are you now going to dripfreed us?

Wheresmytaco Thu 21-Sep-17 09:26:58

"Ooh you're groomed" and it's "nice" that you have done so.

You have been suitably attractive for him today. It is creepy.

ParsnipLeekAndLemonSoup Thu 21-Sep-17 09:27:44

It's not the point worra, I think it's rude to comment on someone's appearance when you don't know them. I literally don't know this guy from Adam.

It's not like meeting up with a friend and they say "oh I like your top/your hair looks nice".
