Im a big fan and i read the biography The Essential Dave Allen 3 and a half years ago. This TV biopic is called Dave Allen At Peace and stars Aiden Gillen.

Hope its done respectfully though and that family has been consulted and is ok with this being done.

I really liked Dave Allen. When his programmes were first aired I think it was past my bedtime. I caught up when I worked in a pub and after my shift watched the repeats.

Very funny guy. Probably an inspiration for Michael Mcintyre and other observational comedians.

May your God go with you.

The Whiskey and the partially missing digit.

He was amazing. The book i mentioned in my OP is well worth a read if you havent already.

Apparently this tv biopic is only going to be an hour long.

ShesNoNormanPace Wed 20-Sep-17 22:10:52

Only an hour? Not enough.

HelenaDove Wed 20-Sep-17 22:12:59

Pace id rather they did a night repeating some of the shows.

And an hour is hardly a biopic.

The book i mentioned is a bio of his career. Not his personal life. Thats why im hoping family have okayed this.

I'll look forward to this. It'd be good to have on over Christmas / New Year.

Glorious! I watched that clip, then another, then...
Bang goes my early night!
Btw, on an earlier thread we were asked if we thought Paul Hollywood was fanciable? I said no.
BUT Dave Allen.
Anyone else with me?

HelenaDove Wed 20-Sep-17 23:22:26

YESS Tiger I TOTALLY agree.

Dave Allen was brilliant and his comedy is still very relevant.
Aidan Gillen is perfect to play him.

As Halloween is coming up next month.

Dave on Dracula and cinema.

HelenaDove Wed 20-Sep-17 23:28:09

YY quaqua So much of his stuff is relevant now.

A few MNers who have sons might relate to this. I dont have DC but what hes talking about here certainly reminds me of my DB.

Dave on young men turning 18.

I would have loved to have heard his take on some of the things around today.

smartphones (he does talk about the v. early smartish watches and early mobile phones in a show from the early 90s)

social media celebrity culture 50 shades of grey.

Yes he was a handsome man, my first crush, well, him and Val Donagan!

NearLifeExperience Thu 21-Sep-17 00:25:58

Ah, DB and I were allowed to stay up late as children to watch Dave Allen. Fond memories!

One of my all time favourite comedy sketches has to be his 'funeral death race' sketch. I don't know how to do links on here, but if you type 'Dave Allen funeral death race' into YouTube it will come up.

elephantoverthehill Thu 21-Sep-17 23:11:37

Granola I am giggling even though I haven't 'You tubed' it yet. I remember it.

Apparently while it was being filmed two old women saw it and thought it was a real occurence and the two women started pearl clutching and saying how disgusting and disrespectful it was grin
