So can pick up DC from nursery or childminders? Take them to after school clubs?

Ragwort Mon 18-Sep-17 18:26:08

My DH has never worked '9-5' and neither have I.

RainbowCookie Mon 18-Sep-17 18:30:26

No but as we are both working parents, we tag team. I work 7-330 so I'm home for kids in the afternoon, my DH does morning school drop off and then works late. It works for us, DH probably had the bigger stress in the morning but I have to leave work at a set time and he can be more flexible so it evens out. We both work in the evenings at home when we need to.

Witsender Mon 18-Sep-17 18:31:41

Yes, he works those hours now. I'm at.home with the kids full time as they are home ed but he still does.

We used to both work 3 days each to cover looking after them which was nice

We both work 9-5ish so drop baby off at nursery on the way to work and collect on our way home.

ThatsWotSheSaid Mon 18-Sep-17 18:33:37

Yes why?

timeisnotaline Mon 18-Sep-17 18:34:29

No but he works 6 /7 to 5ish so that he can do the nursery pick up.

MiniAlphaBravo Mon 18-Sep-17 18:35:37

I'd like that but he works 7.30-5sj plus 1.5 hr commute so all getting kids ready, breakfast, dinner & most baths fall to me! He does earn a fair bit though enabling me to work part time. But I did go back when dd2 was 6 months old.

CMOTDibbler Mon 18-Sep-17 18:36:12

No, and I don't work 9-5 either, but we've shared childcare, dropoff and pickup, sick days etc equally for 11 years now

hidinginthenightgarden Mon 18-Sep-17 18:36:49

Yes but I still do most pick ups. He will be doing school drop offs 2 days a week though.

museumum Mon 18-Sep-17 18:37:16

8:30 till 6:30 usually but can finish at 5:30 to pick up from nursery and dies when I'm travelling. Drop off is fine as nursery opens at 7:30 and dh works 20mins from nursery.

SkafaceClaw Mon 18-Sep-17 18:37:52

Yes - he does all drop offs and we alternate pick ups.

SirNiallDementia Mon 18-Sep-17 18:38:15

He starts at 9 so drops the kids at school but doesn't finish till 6 so I finish work at 5 and get the kids from after school club.

Racheyg Mon 18-Sep-17 18:38:26

Yes, he picks up one while I pick up the other dc as now in different locations.

NorthernLurker Mon 18-Sep-17 18:38:40

My dh works considerably more than 37.5 hours per week but he does a lot from home so can do school run. In the past I did nearly every school run when he was either commuting or away more so I have built my career on a 9-5 basis.

Iheartjordanknight Mon 18-Sep-17 18:38:57

Yes. We alternate drop off and pick
Ups. They're his children too, I'm not doing it all

TheDowagerCuntess Mon 18-Sep-17 18:39:04

If he finishes at 5, how would he be able to take them to after school clubs?

Those are roughly DH's hours, so no, he can't do pick-ups, as school finishes at 3pm.

He does do school drop-offs, though.

PerfectlyPooPoo Mon 18-Sep-17 18:39:30

Yes so he does the morning drops and I collect.

allthekingsshoes Mon 18-Sep-17 18:39:34

Not quite but ish... no nursery but he does the activity running around when he can - he's just left to collect DD from dancing.

NickMarlow Mon 18-Sep-17 18:40:36

Yes, he works 9-5 M-F. I work 24 hours which includes some evening and weekend work. Usually I drop at nursery and he picks up. Each of us has time with dd while the other parent is at work, every week. We share housework and childcare responsibilities when we're both at home.

TheNoseyProject Mon 18-Sep-17 18:40:44

Of course people do. We tag team so one will do 7.30-4.30 and the other will do 8.30-5 or similar or if doing the full day we'll do 8.30-4.30. In my very large work place this is by no means unusual. There are also dad's working part time, compressed hours and flexi-time just like the mum's.

Xmasbaby11 Mon 18-Sep-17 18:44:14

Dh works 9 to 5 Monday to Friday although he often brings work home.

I know a lot of dads who work pt or flexi time around their dc. The school run is around a third male.

NerrSnerr Mon 18-Sep-17 18:45:25

Mine works flexi but often does 10-6 and does the drop off.

ragz134 Mon 18-Sep-17 18:50:08

No, mine works self employed and part time so he can do school runs while I study/work.
I worked 9-5 for a year before uni so he's had plenty of practice by now. He couldn't cope with full time work anyway so it works well for us.

suckonthatmaureen Mon 18-Sep-17 18:50:17

My DH works 8-5ish. He does both school drop off (wrap around care) and the nursery run 4 days a week. He actually does significantly more hours than the above, but works in the evenings and w/end to fit it in around childcare. He also does dinner, bath & gets dc's ready for bed.

I do compressed hours, so have one day a week off to do the above.
