Does anybody know what's happening?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 19-Jun-17 01:24:37

I've just had a BBC Breaking News alert on my phone saying "one arrested & several casualties".

A vehicle has hit pedestrians.

Why at 1am ish on a Monday?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 19-Jun-17 01:25:50

Would people have been gathered at that time? As terrible as an accident would be, I'm keeping everything crossed that an accident is "all" it is.

Bambubelle Mon 19-Jun-17 01:26:21

Major incident outside Finsbury Park mosque. All over the radio.

dustmotesinthesun Mon 19-Jun-17 01:27:29

It sounds like someone has deliberately targeted Muslims. A revenge attack?? Awful if so. Those poor people

Foniks Mon 19-Jun-17 01:28:29

I saw a couple of tweets talking about a terrorist.
Worrying. I do know that there have been a number of collisions there over the years though, and that there have been a couple of cars that actually mounted the pavement.
I'm hoping (if that's the right word) that it's the same again.
Some tweets from people that are apparently at the scene were saying terrorists...
This is really scary.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 19-Jun-17 01:29:40

Possibly dust but the majority of ISIS' victims across the world have also been Muslim haven't they?

Please don't let there be more fatalities, whatever has happened.

Choccywoccyhooha Mon 19-Jun-17 01:30:14

Finsbury Park mosque would have a lot of people coming and going, it's Ramadan, and because it has fallen in June, prayers take place late at night and very early in the morning.

dustmotesinthesun Mon 19-Jun-17 01:32:03

Absolutely but your average racist thicko doesn't realise that. What i've read on twitter suggests Muslims were deliberately targeted as they came out of the mosque.

FreeNiki Mon 19-Jun-17 01:32:29

That is terrible.

It is also going to cause terror groups to carry out more attacks as vengeance.

VerityHabitat Mon 19-Jun-17 01:33:31

BBC says there are a number of casualties

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 19-Jun-17 01:35:20

I'm not on Twitter & you are possibly absolutely right. My point was just that it being an attack on Muslims doesn't necessarily rule out ISIS as the perpitrators.

Whatever the scenario, it's a very very scary world we live in at the moment.

Foniks Mon 19-Jun-17 01:37:26

Oh God I hope it's not that. Finsbury Park is usually quite mellow and people mix well. A few schools round there, very very mixed in terms of ethnicities and religions. If it is that, it'll probably change things in a major way.

FreeNiki Mon 19-Jun-17 01:39:17

That's true santa. A friend of mine is a Shia Muslim and she and her family have been subject to threatening behaviour even during Hajj from Sunni Muslims. They had to pay for security escorts there and Shia Muslims may be banned from making Hajj.

There is alot of violence and hatred between Muslim sects.

Chinnychinnychinnychib Mon 19-Jun-17 01:39:39

Shit. I really hope this is not an attack.

Queenylaverne Mon 19-Jun-17 01:40:18

Could be wrong but could it coincide with Ramadan timings? Ie when people are gathered together to eat or pray? I know thats going on at the moment as have friends who are partaking.

VerityHabitat Mon 19-Jun-17 01:42:03

It is reported as being near the mosque. But that was the initial reports which aren't always accurate.

Foniks Mon 19-Jun-17 01:55:38

As far as I'm aware, Finsbury Park mosque is quite mixed though. Lots of different races, and a few different sects.
I don't think it's the mosque that hook hand Hamza was part of, there's another one there.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 19-Jun-17 01:55:49

I've just read elsewhere that a vehicle accelerated into a crowded cafe outside the mosque.

sad.

I so hope this isn't some sort of BNP idiot attack. Don't people see that is exactly what ISIS want? War & division.

FreeNiki Mon 19-Jun-17 01:56:57

Finsbury was most definitely abu hamzas mosque

MakeMeAFloozy Mon 19-Jun-17 01:59:06

*Freeniki*, she meant that there's a second mosque in that Finsbury park area and it may have been that one, although the original one has had a complete overhaul in terms of management etc

Foniks Mon 19-Jun-17 02:08:41

If it was the bigger mosque, it probably can't be an accident. Traffic there is ridiculously slow and you crawl around the corner there so slowly. Then there's a smaller one (still busy) just round a small bend there, lots of accidents happen there because it's really busy and fast moving.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 19-Jun-17 02:11:49

I've just seen on the other thread that the Daily Fail headline says "Finsbury Park Mosque" and mentions "hate cleric Hamza". So I'd guess it is that particular mosque.

Although he's clearly not got much to do with it now has he?! confused

MakeMeAFloozy Mon 19-Jun-17 02:15:29

Once again, the Daily Fail/Heil fools people in a disgusting manner.

The following is from The Independant:

'As unconfirmed reports swirled, former EDL leader Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Lennon, was condemned for accusing the mosque of past links with extremists.

“I genuinely hope the innocent people targeted tonight outside the mosque are ok,” he later wrote on Twitter, having apparently confused the Muslim Welfare House with the nearby Finsbury Park Mosque.'
