I have a 3 year old, who has really only just developed the patience for stories, and I am looking for suggestions.

I know there is a children's book section but I thought chat might get more traffic.

Julia Donaldson is very nice but I was looking for other ideas too.

Thanks smile

Janet & Alan Ahlberg did 'Peepo' and 'Each Peach Pear Plum' which are both beautiful and don't require a massive concentration span.

Also good are 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'; 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'; the Mog books; 'The Old Woman Who Swallowed A Fly'; and 'Hairy McLairy From Donaldson's Dairy'.

As well as the above books, we love 'Guess how much I love you' and the Gruffalo books. We also love Elephant Wellyphant.

The Jolly Postman is good. Lots of references to fairy tales which is nice but our absolute favourite is Each Peach Pear Plum.

Martin waddell - Owl babies is a huge hit here, along with farmer duck and can't you sleep little bear

We love little rabbit foo foo - here's the story read/sang by inspector Lewis - can't think of his real name. But I used to threaten to turn them into goonies - great fun

The Mousehole Cat is amazing, as are any books with Nicola Bailey's illustrations. My personal favourite as a child was 'The Long Slide' (can't remember who it's by, though)

A lovely book "Boy" (I think) about a boy looking for somewhere warm to sleep... and coming across a woolly mammoth, a sabre tooth tiger, a dinosaur and a volcano.

EddieHitler Sun 19-Mar-17 22:35:47

'Stick Man' is very good too and 'I'm not Sleepy' is a lovely bedtime book.
