Where to move? Commute to Canary Wharf and Hayes

Hi All
I am tearing my hair out as I am trying to find the ideal location to move to (I'm not sure there is one). DH works in Canary Wharf and will be commuting by train and I work near to Hayes (West London) and will prob be commuting by car. The 'move' has been prompted as we want to start a family & I would ideally like to be closer to work. We currently live in SE16 and it takes me between 1- 1.5hrs to drive.
The question is where to move without having to spend hours commuting?
I think I am trying to consider too many things..however I guess the most important points to consider are: shorter commute for DH (no more than an 1.5hrs door to door), good location for families -without breaking the bank!, and good access for me to get to work (30-40mins).
Well I look forward to hearing your views... as I would appreciate some direction. Thank you.

Somewhere on the central line (Ealing or Ruislip, depending on budget)
