It's the first year I'm doing Xmas at home and I am getting a little over-excited I was thinking of doign the classic red and gold table but have also seen a blue & silver theme that looks gorgeous (and would be cheaper as can get cheap white plates!)

What are you all doing with your table? Or am I the only person thinking about such things in early November?

i have a large table, and am having trouble finding a tablecloth to fit, so i am going to get a white single flat sheet, then put a smaller white damask table cloth on top, and then a sparkly black runner on the top of that.

cherry monster, thats a great idea.
Last year i hosted new years day lunch. I had one lovely cream with gold stars table cloth... but had lots of people so brought in the garden table and chairs as well.
I was worried about finding another table cloth to match when i remembered i had an old cream and gold shower curtain ( one of the material ones, not plastic!) I put it on the table, noone noticed, it looked good and someone asked where i got it from LOL!

clara - I mean the table that you have Christmas dinner on.

Good idea about the flat sheet, cherrymonster! Cream with gold stars sounds lovely, shoptilidrop - I love star themes... dammit, now you've given me more things to choose from

We're having a truck theme here. I know it sounds outre, but the dc are mad about trucks so we've got a really big one for the centre that will have the capon in the back and then lots of small trucks to go by each plate (also with trucks on) that will hold the cutlery. We have also got one of those giant cranes and will suspend the cruet from it and kind of winch it round the table.
