Which is best? Lego or K'nex?
It will be for DD, who is almost 4. She not got either, did have mega blocks and enjoyed those... grandparents are asking!

They are both good but lego might be tricky for her still at 4, it has lots of tiny bits.

Knex is larger pieces but not so versatile, ie you can't make so many things...ds has all but abandoned knex in favour of lego now he is 6.

But had I got him lego at 4 he'd have lost it all and found it too tricky.

Well we've had lots of both! Only the younger 3 had K'nex and it did get played with. But all 6 played with lego. Our 12 yearold DS still won't pack the Harry Potter sets away!

lego much more versatile but a big bucket rather than kits to make specific things like a car or you'll have to help for at least a year until they can follow instructions....and get one of those gizmos that you can use to prise bricks apart when they get stuck to save frustration when she can't do it

if you get a bucket get a baseboard as well (about a fiver) to build parks and houses on, dd uses that a lot

OUCH!!

They love the stuff but it hurts when you stand on it in bare feet.

We still have a crate of lego, still played with at 9 and 10, but the k'nex has been given away already.

Lego, dd2 (3) manages ok with lego, dd1 (5) has lego but loves knex (which she plays with at school).

I would go for Kid K'nex (the 3+ range rather than the 7+ range) for this age - dd (3.7) loves hers and if you get a few kits their imagination can run riot.
Lego is fab but would maybe wait a couple of years, the small bits are tricky.

thanks! - have instructed to go with the lego ( which was what i though!) plus a baseboard. She plays with lego at nursery, so just going to get a big bucket and she can make what she wants.

fab! thanks
