What do you eat on Christmas Eve?

several glasses of good tawny port
far too many cheap chocolates like after eights and ferrerro rocher...
and, bizarrely, something vaguely resembling a Christmas dinner! Chicken, cranberry sauce, mash and veg....but I love cranberry sauce and chicken/turkey so to me that's what Christmas is all about!
Lots of my friends have take-aways on Christmas eve

i'm totally rubbish. i usually do lots of little things that can be picked up and carted around and nibbled on as people disappear off into diffeent rooms to do last minute wrapping... we're dead organised, we are.

Thanks guys. It is the only day I will be cooking and We usually eat out but I need some inspiration for a meal to cook this year as we are going away for Christmas and so the culinary burden is not on me (hurrah!)

Bit of a picnic supper usually. We make curry puffs (curried mince beef in puff pastry) and start on all the christmas goodies - nuts, crisps, choccies, gingerbread etc.

It sounds good. I love cranberry sauce, turkey etc a lot as well. However, I am not sure that DH and the children would enjoy two such similar meals for two (possibly three) days in a row.
I am with you the alcohol and chocolates though!

Hope you get some better ideas from people more wild and crazy than my household!
For what it's worth, we don't do turkey on Boxing Day - not a fan of turkey carcasses filling up my fridge when the space could be so much better used by a cheesecake or large mincemeat flan - nope, Mrs dubb roasts a gammon joint and we have that with beetroot and potatoes.....

See IME it's cold meat and pickles etc with roast potatoes on Boxing day.
We have never stayed with this particular wing of our gigantic family before so am simply assuming they will follow suit

dcs have sausage rolls, party type platter (tescos or marks). me and dh have a takeaway,when children in bed. then i play father christmas, dh falls asleep. My mum then usually pops round to sneak a look at the christmas presents round the tree scene, and we sit and drink baileys for an hour before bed.Very greedy and unhealthy but i love this routine.

Turkey lol. I usually do a buffet type thing not formal but sort of heres the nibbles picky things help yourself. I get some cold meats including turkey off the bone sliced nice and thick. Basically stuff that I dont have to bother with too much

Kids choose their fav dinner, so I often cook 2 seperate but very simple meals. Dh and I have a curry, to prepare us for sveral days of unspicy food, when visiting relatives.
Normally we have chilli/garlic/spice in every meal

we always have a chinese delivered and have the kids in bed by 8.30, then crack on with putting together and wrapping

We usually eat out. On the Christmas Eves that we have spent at home we usually have a chinese or party type food.

Nigella's ham in coke (hot with leftovers of which there will be a sufficient quantity to have cold next day), with ratatouille and baked potatoes. Very easy, very delicious and not at all like Christmas Day
