Christmas

What are you getting your 3.5/4yo ds this Christmas?

I can't think what to get for mine.

Was going to get him a bike but he's still too short to reach the pedals on those we've tried so think I'll wait until his birthday in 6 months time for that.

Have bought a few stocking fillers (Playmobil figures, cars) and some books but nothing 'big'.

Ideally something that will occupy him inside during the winter months. He's not a huge fan of arty stuff.

Ds is 3.8 and I'm really stumped tbh.
I'm thinking maybe a keyboard - if I can find one that is at least reasonably suited to his age - and one of those cameras, Fisher Price I think.
But I just dont know really...

Don't get the fisher price camera - it's shite! You could get a cheap digi camera that he could actually take pictures with for that price.

DS has it and the picture quality is so, so disappointing.

Anyway, no idea what DS getting...maybe a toolbench or a Leapster2 or something.

What about a balance bike?

DS got his when he was 3.5 and he LOVES it- he's 4.5 now. He learned to ride his bike a few weeks ago without stabilisers- he did it easily in about half an hour- but he still prefers his balance bike.

Last year he got a wooden railway set and this year he is getting a new (ebay) bike and some hot wheels stuff.

Oh we also got him the Vtech games console thing last Christmas and it was really crap so we returned it. Don't get one.

DS is 4 on Saturday and we have just been out and bought him the Toys R Us equivalent of a Hot Wheels track (DH, who claims to know these things and will be playing with it just as much as DS, thought it was better for a 4 yr old than the Hot Wheels stuff), some light-up cars to go on it and a car transporter. Pretty sure he will be delighted as loves his cars. He is also VERY into Playmobil and Lego at the moment though the latter is DH's old stuff not the fancy new stuff that just baffles

Will be watching this for Christmas ideas now the birthday is sorted!

baffles me

No cameras, things that flash, beep, or need batteries, etc. We've got more than enough annoying noisy toys (despite my best efforts to hide or freecycle them all).

He has Brio, but doesn't need any more.

Dh is very anti balance bikes. Not sure why but as an non cyclist I must defer to his greater expertise in these matters.

We bought our 3.5yo son the duplo fire station, it's expensive enough for a main present.

how about a toy castle?

My DS (4.2) got one for his birthday and some of his Xmas present will be more stuff to go with it.

He seems to want an extortionate number of knights

Also for Xmas we have got him the Dora the Explorer Lap top.

DS2 will be 4 in January and I have bought him some Fisher Price Imaginext

fire station

ambulance

police car

and a few other bits. Boots have 3 for 2 but the Fire Station is only £30 in ToysRus

He also has a few Roary bits that I bought in sales half price

Like the castle idea. He has the small Playmobil castle (just the take along one) but has been asking for the bigger one (and the really big one). Debating with myself if he actually needs one or should just make do with his smaller one.

The Fisher Price fire engine, ambulance etc look fun but he has Playmobil equivalents already.

my ds (nearly 4) has asked for a scooter and some games.
Last year he wanted a yellow telescope!

Report
Stinkyfeet · 03/11/2009 19:27

We're getting ds2 (3.8) this scooter so he stops fighting ds1 for his.

However, if you're keen on getting a bike, ds2 can easily reach the pedals and ride (with stabiliser) this bike. He's about 96cm ish tall.

We are getting imaginext stuff for our 4 year old ds. Hope he will like it. It looks like fun to me!

He's getting:

Art box (a plastic crate from filled with pens, paints, crayons, coloured paper, stuff to cut and stick etc) - all from the Pund Shop

Books

DVDs

Various games & puzzles

A globe

Yet more lego...

A basketball hoop and ball for the garden

We aren't really doing a 'big' present. More than enough there, including stocking too.

My DS (4) has the V-Tech Camera and we think its pretty good. Takes good pictures and there are some games etc. We downloaded photos onto our Netbook and they are pretty good.

For Chrimbo, we have got him a Leapster 2 and a couple of games. This was because he loves the games on his camera, so wanted to extend that with some learning games. Think we got him Batman, Star Wars and a fabulous dinosaur game that DH just can't put down!!

Also have him other bits and pieces (jigsaws, arty stuff, Ben 10 stuff (which he loves).

Mine is 4.2 and getting a marble run, a Playmobil dragon to go with his knights, castle etc, a pirate yacht sailing boat thing for the bath and a tub of proper Lego bricks (he has lots of police and fire bits but can't really take them apart and rebuild them himself yet.)

Chocolate I have had a bit of a play prod and it seems to have quite a bit of play potential. I think the 3/4 year old plus age range is a bit thin on the ground. Most Fisher Price stuff is aimed at the younger, baby to 3 year old. I hunted to get DS THIS last year, its a lovely unisex toy and he still plays with it. I think there is a gap in the market

Canihaveapee did you get the telescope. Ds would love one, though I havn't though to source one yet

overtired.. glad to hear you liek the V-Tech camera. I have bought one on behalf of the GP's (coming over soon from Spain) and they weren't convinced on the camera as they hadn't seen kiddy ones.

We have got our 3 year old DS 'My first Scalectrix' set - the one with the mini racing cars. Its not usually the kind of thing I would buy but I know he will love it.
He is also getting:

Cookery book (for kids)
Cooking equipment and apron
Paints
Stencils
A toy broom (as you can tell he is quite domesticated!)
Picture books
A slinky
A new uglydoll
