I know this is early but are we going to have an MN Christmas Appeal this year?

Just thought I would ask as the last one was launched on 1st Oct last year.

I suppose I am saying that if no-one more competent and organised than me comes forward, I am prepared to do it. But would like to speak to Soapbox, LL or StG for pointers before launch iyswim.

I find myself quite time rich over the next few weeks while my security clearance is processed for my new job.

So Wadda we think?

It would be good if there was one again. There are a few people who I feel deserves things this year.

Was such a lovely feeling last year when we recieved something for dd that I would like to send something this time.

I'm up for it, but I have a feeling few people will be... Moldies all kicking off, and the woman who had a teddy instead of a child put a lot of people off last year

I hate that. Not saying you are wrong, but if they stop one of the best things about MN then that would be v v sad

I would like it if there was one this year. I would like to be able to give to some mn'ers.
I got some lovely gifts last year and sat sobbing because it was so kind and thoughtful. Would love to be able to pass that joy onto someone else.

I was so touched when we got something last year. Really helped me and DH at the end of a bleak year.

I'd like to see it again this year. As someone who received something last year, I can honestly say it was a lovely, warm point in what was otherwise a pretty awful Christmas. I was amazed, and very touched, at the kindness and generosity of strangers. I'd like the opportunity to brighten someone else's Christmas in the same way. Well done for volunteering, Norma.

I think it's a good thing to do. Yes there is the possibility for abuse but that diminishes the person trying it on not the giver. Giving is a good discipline and receiving a joyful act - full steam ahead for appeal 09 says I!

Teddy? Sounds intriguing!

I'm definitely up for donating this year, i had to pull out at the last minute last year as dp had pneumonia and was off work for weeks so we were completely broke just when i needed to buy the gifts.... on that note it would be great if matching could be done much earlier this year to give people a bit more time to get organised

I think we should do it and know a couple of people to nominate.
I recieved a gift for dc's two years ago and it was really lovely , especially entertained the postman asking for the mumsnetter of the house

I think you'll actually find most people are still up for it.

The teddy thing was a poster who mostly hung out with the huns pushchair girls. She used to talk about her "little one" who turned out to be a teddy bear. Someone unwittingly sent her something in the appeal and was (rightly) very pissed off when she found out.

There was a hoo-ha and it was not long after moldies so emotions were high.

But I think most people would still want it to go ahead. We're (nearly) all good people here, aren't we?
