Can anyone think how to create a mince pie costume for ds2? Big cardboard hat? Or just a cutout of a mincepie tied around his neck? Would like to be a bit more creative than that, but within reason..

brown jumper and trousers, two round beige cushions tied on his front and back - and a beanie hat with a bit of holly on it?

thought not......

OK - make or acquire a basic white tunic, paint with fabric paint to look like mince pie - but paint tlook as if a big bite has been taken out of one side. SEw small ribbon holly garnish in the middle.

Any other parents of mince pies you can ask what they are doing

um, where in the bible does Mary eat a mince pie before her homebirth in the stable?

You will need some holly.

I have a white tunic - it's done service as part of angel/shepherd/townspeople/fairy in the past. Are you thinking I should paint it as though I am looking down on said mince pie? Or from the side?

Am liking the beanie hat with holly in it - he looks v cute in hats.

I'm always amazed at what the school thinks parents can design and make!

Well, there's a baker in this story too, hence the baked goods. And I think dried fruit was v big in Middle Eastern fare of the time, no?

There are other mince pie parents, perhaps we should strap them together as a box of M&S's finest.

LOL!

Thankfully DS is a shopper in their production of Jack and the Beanstalk! Takes after his Mummy!

needmorecoffee - I really hope he doesn't have lines. He has form in running offstage during dramatic moments. I think he has to sing a mince pie song and rub his tummy.

To be honest, I have previously got away with easy costumes - stars, angels, etc, so it's probably my time for a challenge. It does amaze me what parents do though. At the summer play one kid had to be a rocket and his dad made a huge wheel-on rocket launcher thing which the child had to push on stage and then stand behind and put his face through the window!

geordie - that is genius! I could do that! He would look fab and ha ha to rocket-making dad!

Although have just read text where it says her ds fell over and couldn't get up. Oh well, the nursery staff are always close by to pick the children up.

Wilbur, that is the funniest thing I have read today. Bless him

If it's any consolation, I had to be a credit card in a school play once.

Was it a morality play about the evils of Xmas shopping, Sheik?

I can even remeber the rap I had to doi..

"It ain't hard
with a credit card
Those pounds and notes
you can disregard
I'm your way
To a brighter day]
with this piece of plastic
you can let me pay"

I had to accompany it with elaborate rap hand gestures and I wore a baseball cap and some bling.

IIRC, I was dressed as an Access card [shows age]

It was Oscar winning stuff, I tells ya. Steven Spielberg and Baz Luhrman rang me so many times afterwards that I had to change my number

ROFL! A meditation on the causes of the credit crunch through the medium of rap, excellent. Did you have a dancing repossession order as well?
