Christmas

AIBU to ask you to critique my DS’s Christmas presents

I’ve seen a few threads on here discussing Christmas presents and if the OP has spent too much, too little, if X gift is too extravagant etc. Posters always have such different opinions on what is acceptable or different ways of doing it in their house. I thought I would say what DS 5 has got and what people think of it. He is an only child and I haven’t set a budget or totted up the amount, I just go with whatever I feel is right. He has expressed a real desire for the mario and he loves playing mine craft at friends houses and building his own houses etc.

In his small stocking he has got;
Wario Lego minifigure
Waluigi Lego mini figure
Mr happy bath bomb
Fidget spinner
2 candy canes
Spy pens
Whoopee cushion
Squishy dinosaur
Silly putty
Chocolate coins
Mr men book
Top secret stamp

Main gifts;
Metal slinky
Colour changing felt tips
Mine craft game for the switch
Pocky ball
Mario Lego starter set

I will accept all opinions Smile

Are these presents your son would like?
Are you within what you can afford?
Are they balanced with what other people will buy him?

Honestly... thats all what matters most.

Sounds perfect to me and I'm sure your little boy will be thrilled. I'm sure you'll get loads of people saying it's not enough and others saying it's too much but I think it sounds a great balance. Smile

Yes to all your questions Smile

Sounds good but I would say keep the spy pens and top secret stamp until he is 2 or 3 years older when he will understand the meaning of them a bit better, if that makes sense.

Thanks @bossyboo Smile

It’s funny when you start chatting to others and their Christmas plans/presents seem to be so vastly different from yours. I am quite happy with my choices but do like to hear others opinions!

It's fine?

My DS is same age. He only gets one main present but its because its usually a "big" item (this year it's a micro maxi scooter, last year it was a frog pedal bike). He gets some smaller items from grandparents/aunt etc.

Be aware of Minecraft on the Switch that it can take a lot of memory if they keep making different worlds, so you may need a memory card for it too depending on how much memory your switch has . Also it will likely need updating as soon as you turn it on so I would secretly do that while he is in bed or school over time as it could take ages on Christmas Day with everyone trying to update games at the same time. Obviously make sure you delete it from the screen so he doesn’t see it once you’ve finished Grin

Honestly, just have faith in your own choices. It really doesn't matter what I think

Report
softblueface · 26/11/2021 23:09

@PrawnStars I do really, I just wanted to know what others thought really. Just based on similar threads I’ve read on here and how people do it differently and have such strong opinions! Although bizarrely it’s made me feel nice that people have said it sounds nice Grin

Thanks for the tip @Tinkywinkydinkydoo!

I wouldn’t say that sounds very much tbh. That is just my opinion though. The stocking sounds good but the main presents are quite small (slinky, felt tip pens etc) considering there are so few.

The bits themselves sound nice though 😊

Unless he gets lots of presents from others I would have given a few more for my DC at that age
Probably a few more books, they also liked sticker books and puzzles - craft kits etc

Why do you care what strangers on an internet forum think of what you've bought your child for Christmas? Hmm

bippityboppity87 · 27/11/2021 00:41

That sounds more than enough OP

I plan on getting my DS (5)

Sonic the Hedgehog hoodie
Minecraft onesie
Minecraft figurine things
Chocolates and sweets
Wooden popcorn machine

That's it really

DS will also have a Christmas Eve box ( I know frowned upon on MN) which will basically be Christmas pjs, chocolate, bubbles, colouring book, bath bomb

Sounds great to me.
But then my dc are getting far far less. Luckily I don't care what MN thinks, I've been told more than once that I'm mean Wink

I was thinking similar tbh, but then again we have a smaller extended family so possibly over compensate with presents for DS.

Sounds good and he'll be a happy little boy! Have you heard this present guideline for kids, one of each. "want-need-wear-read.".
