Christmas

Gifts for teenage nieces

Hello everyone hope you can help. This year we will be spending Christmas with the in-laws. We only see them once or twice a year as they live 90 miles away. There are 5 nieces to buy for ranging from 12-22 & we have no idea what to buy them. Money is tight so our budget is only for a small token gift each - do girls in this age group like Lush products? Or any other suggestions? Thank you 😊

I'd say Lush products would work!

Last year I got a family member some make up from Pat McGrath that was reduced to £10 in the sale around this time so you could have a look there maybe? Seems to be a popular and well regarded brand.

We buy for a family with four dc over that age range - I nearly always get them something from hotel chocolate and wait until there is a "4 for x" type deal.

But lush products products sound good too.

I would go for a token present and cash. Little chocolates from Hotel Chocolate as they have something for all ages went down well.

Lush is a good call

Lush products are a good idea but you might find you can get similar stuff cheaper from FB sellers as lots of people have started micro businesses with bath bombs ETC during lockdown. :)

Tiger is also fab for little bits like random fun notebooks or pens :)

Boots usually have some nice bits for that age group in their 3 for 2 gift offer. Last year I got DN14 who loves her sleep a gift box with silky eye mask, dream journal & sleep spray. Her big sister DN16 got a eyeshadow palette similar to one of mine she'd admired.

Lush bath bombs and chocolate sound like a plan x

What’s ‘token’? £5/£10/£15?

Lush will definitely work but I find them expensive for what you get. If I was spending between £10-£15 I’d get them something like a Costa gift card and some chocolates alongside.

Boots 3 for 2 may work well.

I’d get on the Boots £10 Tuesday train and buy whatever the makeup or bath product deal is. Last weeks was amazing £89 worth of make up for £10.

I have multiple nieces to buy for too and we do a budget of £5-6 each. Some of my nieces are younger but I have 4 tween/teenagers to buy for. I’ve bought DN(10) a mug cake recipe book (£3.99 on Amazon), 2x DN(13) Christmas scented shower steamers (£3.50) and DN(15) possibly wireless earbuds (£6 from Typo after spotting on bargain thread!) I just worry that the earbuds are a ‘better’ present that the others so seems uneven so may do something else. Will get sweets or chocolate to make the other ones up to budget.

Definitely have a look at Boots. They’ve got 405 items aimed at women and girls between £5-10, and 240 items between £2-5. Bound to be something appropriate there.

I wouldn't go for make up unless you really know them and especially the older ones may have their own preferences about brands or they don't like the whole thing at all.

I would stick with chocolate and £5 note/Costa gift card, DD would definitely love that from a relative she doesn't see a lot.

Lush products is a good idea. Also think gift cards to book/arts&crafts stores if the girls are crafty. If they are into tech, then maybe portable chargers or ring lamps for smartphones. Could be subscriptions to simple photo editors like Photoworks or Affinity if they're into that. Online magazine subscriptions are also nice if you know what they'd like to read.

@CoffeeChocolateWine Could you please link to the Christmas shower steamers ? Thank you!

OP, I have a 17 year old DD who is very brand aware and would prefer something cheaper from an “in” brand than more money spent on something else that isn’t. Lush is fine. The Percy pig / Colin caterpillar gifts, sweets and chocolate in M&S are actually very “in”.
A lot of the stuff in the boots 342 is definitely not fine! Superdry, Jack wills etc very out of fashion around these parts. Depends on how fussy they are I guess.

@PostPopper, I got them from a seller on Etsy called Bubble and Bathe. Here’s a link to one of the scents I got but there’s plenty more if you scroll through the listings in her shop.

I think a gift card to a coffee shop and some nice chocolates is good idea. Makeup tricky as it’s so individual.

I bought myself a drawstring makeup bag from Amazon, with which I am delighted.
I intended buying one for my granddaughter but peeved to see it has gone up from £5.98 which I paid and which is within OP’s budget, to £7.99.
There are some multibuy offers though which I haven’t explored but worth a look.
