Sorry, I thought with it being the Christmas topic it would have been obvious. I mean Father Christmas but I suppose the same question could apply to Jesus. Both are down to faith.

@madcatladyforever I was an abused child and we didn't have much money, then I was an abused wife who is still being emotionally abused by my exH but I must have missed the memo that said there was no magic for me. Maybe you thought this was aibu with your unkind comments.

I may be being dim here but can I ask, when you say you believe in Father Christmas, do you mean you don’t purchase, wrap and present your children’s gifts and they magically appear under the tree on Xmas morning? Because if so, perhaps speak to your wife? maybe you’re my husband

I believe in the magic of Christmas. When my kids figured out that Santa was really me, it didn't stop us enjoying all the Christmas films and writing to Santa still went on a few years. And they still, now teens, get gifts from Santa (and Rudolf and Mrs Santa and Santa Mouse, I think even the tree came up with a gift last year).
Christmas is a combination of memories, expectation, family, celebration, tradition and worship.
Sure @madcatladyforever there are many people who do not celebrate or have the chance to enjoy Christmas for whatever reason, but there are people in terrible circumstances year round. That is not a reason to stop enjoying yourself because others are not. By your reasoning a friend should not enjoy spending time with her parents because mine have passed away. In fact one should be extra grateful and take more joy in the fact Christmas is a special and unique and yes even magical time or year.

Christmas is lovely without subverting my own logic or that of my children. I prefer life in reality, where I am just grateful for my gorgeous children and spending special family time.
I have never sought to fool myself or my children into anything, there has not been a need. We have lots fun about Father Christmas; go out to see him pass by in the sky (iss) and have great fun threatening my teen children that they had best behave if they want Father Christmas to give them presents but I have never pretended it was real. I could never stand the thought of some neglected child wondering why Father Christmas gave other kids presents and not them.
Magic is in the small delights for me, not deception.

In Santa? No.

In the magic of Christmas? No. I enjoy it. Just about every culture has a midwinter festival, a splash of light and warmth and joy in the middle of long, dark, cold winter months. If it wasn't called Christmas it would be something else! But I do generally like it, to an extent.
