Crappy Christmas films! An appreciation thread.

Is anyone else out there watching all the shit Christmas films on the telly at the moment?

I found a personal highlight yesterday in My Christmas Inn, notable for its extremely clunky product placement for Balsam Hill.

And obviously anything starring Melissa Joan Hart or Danica Mckellar is going to be fabulous.

Please tell me it's not just me!

I am going to make a watchlist for myself (and DH if he wants to join in) of Christmas films to watch in the lead up to Christmas. I’m going to keep an eye on this thread for suggestions. Grin

We watched the animated The Grinch on Saturday. I enjoyed it far more than the original but that’s probably because Jim Carey makes me want to stab myself in the face.

Me! Loving watching the Hallmark style Christmas films when I see them on tv, it makes me feel festive (even if it is only November!). I love them.
I haven’t got a specific one to recommend as I never remember their titles!

It's not just you. One a night from the first of December in this house (plus any I can sneak in in November...)
The cheesier and more predictable the better, extra points if they star somebody you vaguely recognise, which leads to a quick IMBD search. They were usually in Saved by the Bell or something similar Grin

@justAPassingFashion I am just packing a bag. Do I need bedding / airbed?

That Balsam Hill reference was hilarious- I'm so glad someone else noticed. I'm looking forward to part 2 of the Princess switch or whatever it is called appearing as some of it was filmed in Edinburgh.

I am addicted to this kind of film and we can't be the only ones as they keep churning them out. I'm watching earlier than usual I think- i need the cheer. I also watched Christmas with the kranks the other day which I love.

Have you watched the Christmas Prince films on Netflix?

I love the channel 5 Christmas films, Dean Cain is in nearly all of them. Plus they're available on 5 on demand all year round!

Hurrah! My people! Bless you all and your low festive standards! Grin

@JustAPassingFashion I think Saved by the Bell and its contemporaries are the official training ground for the Hallmark Vaguely Familiar Actors Academy.

@SummerHouse haha, no we can sort that out.
In fairness, we could just make camp in the lounge and up it to 3 films a night.

Report
JustAPassingFashion · 11/11/2020 09:35

@DMCWelshcakes absolutely.
And if you weren't in Saved by the bell they'll still let you audition, just as long as you look a little bit like somebody who is moderately famous.

I love them. The crappier the better. There is a melissa joan heart one where her nutcracker comes to life. Its fabulously odd and yet brilliant. I've not watched the Christmas inn yet but maybe when its ds naptime haha.

I don't think those are the ones this thread is referring to
This thread is about typical Christmas films on channel 5 in the afternoon, those types

I think I would love to own a film studio that churned out tacky Christmas films at an Olympic rate.
It would keep all the D list actors in jobs so they don’t have to do reality tv and would be giving joy to the world!
Off to see the bank manager later !

I love them, the crappier the better - channel 5 on a Sunday afternoon is my favourite place

My whole family are Hmm at me

Sony Christmas Channel is also on if Channel 5 isn’t meeting your crappy Christmas movie needs

I have been watching the sony christmas channel since September. Now I can flick between that and 5 and 5select.My mum and I like to compare films over the phone.

Some are terrible - Santas Summer House is the worst one I can recall. The christmas cabin a close second.

Some are quite good. I love Oh Christmas Tree, 12 days of christmas and Mrs Miracle. Netflix and prime have a good selection.

Report
DMCWelshcakes · 11/11/2020 10:45

I have at least 4 Christmas film channels at the moment on cable, and Netflix & Amazon Prime are also now streaming utter crap too.

Good Christmas films are a separate genre entirely. I'll not hear a word against Elf or The Muppets Christmas Carol!
