I got one in ikea, it was very cheap so decided to do a haunted house for halloween. It was a disaster, the roof was too heavy for the walls so it kept falling down. It tasted lovely though.

I got this from Costco the other week, it was £8! Haven’t tried it yet obviously but looking forward to giving it a go!

Last year we bought one in John Lewis. It was £15 and it was stale and hard and the sweets were cheap and disgusting. It would not assemble as it was warped so we decorated the bits and had fun and then it was chucked into the bin.

We could not get it to hold together with any icing or edible glue, it was a bit of a family joke.

A bit like an edible Ikea flat pack build.

Either Aldi or Lidl did a pre-built one last year that was great. You just decorated it yourself. Soooo much easier. It got eaten, too!

We had exactly the same experience with the Ikea house! No trouble at all with the Lidl one, but it was not available.
The Ikea version drove me demented. Whatever I did, it would not stick together and in the end I threw it across the kitchen to shatter on the floor..
Normally I am very patient and rather a dab hand with flatpacks.

Dr Otker makes a "baking glue" that holds better than most super glues I've used.

I usually buy IKEA but have bought Tiger this year.

The trick to holding together the gingerbread walls is not to use icing! You need boiled sugar which has been boiled until it is caramel coloured and sets rock hard. Use it like glue to stick everything together.

This year I've also bought mini houses so I'm hoping for a sort of gingerbread village.

I got the Costco one linked upthread. Obvs we haven't tried it yet, but it looks like a quality set. Kids are demanding daily to put it together!

We usually get one from Lidl. They do a hansel and gretel one which ds loves. Never had any issues sticking it together. Although we used Dr Otker's baking glue last year (bought in ikea).

I got the one from Home Bargains last year and it held together really well. I've bought it again this year with extra (nicer) sweets.

We did get a free-standing gingerbread house a subsequent year, which was decorated with many sweets and much enthusiasm. I am wondering also how much gingerbread and how many sweets I want the lids to eat, given that we are liable to be doing a lot of other home baking!
