Show me the duplo!

Hi guys,

Has anyone seen any bargain or well-priced duplo sets around in their shopping online? We don't drive and obviously can't get supermarket delivery slots now!

I've got a big box of compatible blocks and one tiny set for my almost 2 year old, but I'd like a few more (also to split with his birthday in January).

Also, does this kind of thing usually go on Black Friday deals? I am such a novice at shopping for kids, mine is the first one in the extended family.

Thanks!

Rule 1 of Lego... Bargain is relative.

It often comes up in Black Friday deals. Somety in 3 for 2 offers. Keep an eye in supermarkets, including Aldi and Lidl. John Lewis often price match.

I really recommend getting a base plate.

What type of themes keep his interest? Vehicles, animals etc? Then go for a set along one of those.

Err he's into everything pretty much. Things with wheels (although he already has a train set), animals, dinosaurs.

Take a look at Argos, The Entertainer and Smyths Toys. They all sell Duplo (though compare prices) and they do home delivery, usually free if you spend more than a specific amount. Some of those stores have offers on various toys eg 2 for £15 or £5 off a £25 spend and so on.

If it’s something you definitely want for dc I’d consider whether you really want to wait until Black Friday on the off chance of a few pounds saving. I appreciate for some people the reduction may be the difference between being able to afford an item or not but a lot of things have been selling out quite quickly as so many people are restricted due to Covid and are shopping online. I’m not sure whether this years Black Friday “bargains” will be all that amazing tbh.

Oh that's a good point too, thanks :) I'll have to do some proper scouring in the evenings. I just can't find loads of choice either at the usual places, Argos, Amazon, Asda, etc while there seems to be loads of pre-owned variety on ebay.

Definitely worth getting a couple of smaller sets with additional figures to supplement a larger set. We have about 6 sets of duplo we have collected over the years and they are all mixed together now. The items my 4 and 2 year olds play with the most are the cars, the windows and doors, the animal figures and the people.

The 2 for £15 sets at Argos plus one larger set (such as the fire station) should be a pretty good start. Bear in mind that duplo doesn’t have as large a range as Lego, so if you would like more variety then eBay is likely to be a good source of older sets.

Lidl has it in their toy events, usually £5.99 for a little set.

I was going to say eBay, purely because you can get so much more for your money and so much more choice. All the animal sets are lovely and the police set with the real flashy lights was great! Oh god I do miss the Duplo years but I've saved most of it for the grandchildren in god knows how many years!

Keep checking on Argos because when a meeting set of duplo is coming out the old one is dirt cheap in a clearance. Think I got a toy story one for about £5.

We just bought a massive bag from wish. Ordered last month and took a few weeks, but looks great! Huge marble run thing as well.

Keep an eye on Amazon, they are doing different deals daily until 'black Friday'.

The big house was down from £55 to £35 last week.
