My 8yo DS has produced a list basically asking for consoles, pc, tv etc but nothing else.

He has a Switch already that we limit and an iPad.

I want to get him stuff he'll appreciate that's not tech but I've no clue.

What are you getting your 8yo?

My DS is similar. But he also likes comics. So the Beano annual. A comic drawing drawing book. Minecraft and roblox toys. Lego. He will play with these quietly if I insist on no screens

Why do you want to get him stuff he doesn’t want?

What aout Lego Hiddenside? Build the lego then bring it to life via the hiddenside app. Ds 9 got some for his birthday, it made ghm fall in love with again.

Well what are his interests other than his Switch or iPad? Does he enjoy Lego, knex, play any sports, enjoy drawing?

@Toilenstripes I don't necessarily want to get him stuff he doesn't want but I also don't want him on screens all the time so am looking for ideas of things he'll hopefully like when offered!

Ah, that makes sense. What about Geocaching? It’s fun and gets you/him out of the house! 🙂

What does he do atm when he isn't on tech? Is he sporty/arty/likes books etc... My ds could easily become totally obsessed with tech if allowed but with screen limits he also loves lego, skateboarding, football and drawing.

The Elmers slime kits have been a good price on Amazon for a while. They're really good for this age and work brilliantly.
My DS is a similar age and likes Treasure X.

My 8 year old loves lego, decent board games like ticket to ride, takenoko, azul, through the desert, dinosaur Island etc but also chess, top trumps and stuff, craft stuff, the funky ultralight air drying clay has been a massive half term hit, science kits, snap circuits.

Our dS has adored his Beano subscription . We’ve always steered away from technology except when allowed unlimited use at certain times and it makes such a difference so I liked this thread .
He’s also used a second hand Isla bike LOAds , I’d say one of the best things we’ve got him

Thanks everyone some really good suggestions here. I'd better start ordering as it doesn't look like will be able to access 'proper' shops for any of this given today's announcement.
