Stir up Sunday is looming (sort of) and I usually go Delia but this year.......thinking of making a controversial move towards Mezzer.

Any thoughts?

I just do a mash up of Darina Allen and Rachel Allen. I don't want nuts in it so I just substitute more fruit.

I switched to Delia from Nigel last year and was glad I had; I’ll be sticking with Delia.

I've gone with Mary Berry this year. It looks and smells divine. Was very tempted to just dive straight in Smile

Delia - her recipes always work plus she has a picture of her cuddling her cat on the jacket of one of her books, whereas Mary Berry just reminds me of a cat's bum

I went rogue last year and made some dry disappointment with zero structural integrity. This year I'm back to Delia and will never stray again. Delia knows her fruit cakes.

Delia without question.

Waitrose. Grin

I have sworn off making fruitcakes after DH accidentally set fire to the last one with home-made plum gin!

I switched from Delia to Mary last year. Delia was a bit dry. I prefer Mary.

Waitrose Christmas cake kit in a box, based on a Delia recipe I think. Lazy but works brilliantly! Smile

Which Delia one though? I've just googled and there's three!

Neither, Nigella.

A Delia and Nigel mash up with chopped soft prunes. It makes the cake so much moister. Although I am quite heay handed when it comes to feeding the cake.

I bought one of the Waitrose kits in the January sales one year and TBH it was pretty good. I did substitute some of the fruit with extra prunes though Grin But it makes a very thin cake. It's definitely worth considering if you are on budget, as even at full price, it works out a lot cheaper than buying the ingredients separately. I often end up with lots of leftover dried fruit/black treacle/suet that I don't have a use for until next Christmas.

I was flabbergasted to find out this week Delia has more than one recipe. For about 20 years I've made the same cake. Too scared to try a different recipe, so I used my trusty one again.

I switched from Delia to Mary a few years ago. Mary is far more moist. Ive been making Delia for years, but as soon as i switched i had far more compliments on it

This one, been making it for ten years, usually two of them (one for in laws) , never fails me. Gets a good soaking weekly until mid December and I always make them now (Oct half term)
