Terry’s Chocolate orange.

Growing up I always had the traditional satsuma type thing in my stocking and then progressed to a Terry’s chocolate agent when I reached adulthood because, let’s be honest, I want chocolate and not fruit. Despite being very proper adults now, my husband and l still love to have stockings!

Said husband, however, doesn’t like chocolate oranges (sigh) And so I’m wondering if anyone can think of anything that is sort of in the same ilk and Christmassy in the way that a chocolate orange is to me. I could just give him a satsuma but I’d love to find an amazing alternative. Does anyone have any ideas?

M and S had chocolate sprouts last year. I've also seen Christmas Coal somewhere, it's like cinder toffee.

Chocolate coins, candy canes or a selection box (haven’t had a selection box for years!).

I hate Chocolate Orange. My dad (and Mum) put one in our stockings every year as kids and I said I don't like chocolate orange and my dad said, Oh I do! I love them. I'll have it.

This is still going on now I'm nearly 60 and he's well into his 80s. I buy him a chocolate orange every year and he says, Ooh..chocolate orange! I love those!.

I'll be quite sad when the old bugger dies. He still tends to buy me one and I give it back to him (on top of his own!) I am genuinely unsure whether he honestly cannot remember that I don't like chocolate orange..

We still do the traditional bits and bobs in the bottom of stockings, for adults and children:
Tangerine
Apple
Nuts in shells - walnut, hazelnut, almond nut, brazil nut - nutcracker on hand
New coins
Chocolate Santa

Chocolate tool kits, chocolate sprouts and chocolate coins usually make an appearance too, though these are much later traditions in our family.

Have you got an Aldi or Lidl nearby? They usually do loads of Christmas chocolatey goodness (and currently have Terry's chocolate orange bars, as well as cranberry chocolate bars. "It's not Terry's.... It's mine...!"

Chocolate sprouts, avocado, beans on toast, cauliflower, asparagus, pizza?
Chocolate cigar, santa skull, robots?
Lindor, reindeer, coins, one of those massive quality street, truffle, big ferrero rocher.
Custard cream/bonbon shaped
Chocolate lolly
Cream eggs
Chocolate all day breakfast
toffee
fudge
Tin of sweets, jelly bean,
Lindt sample selection or similar
Retro sweets or whatever in the jars
Selection box - these are really easy to cobble together and package yourself so it doesn't look like you've raided the corner shop!!

Even better if you drink coffee, a lot of those jars once you take off the label, fill with stuff, chuck a bit of ribbon around and sorted, no-one realises. The jars with the big added plastic head, that comes off so your left with just the sealed screw lid. Lor and a few others. And of course for douwe egbert for the shape.
