How many meters of wrapping paper?

This might be a ‘how long is a piece of string’ type question but if you care to indulge my musings...

How many meters of wrapping paper do you typically buy or get through for Christmas?

I’ve bought 14m in 2 rolls.

Hoping it’s enough as I don’t. Want to be popping to shops last minute this year.

I’m buying for 18 children (2 of which are mine, so more than one present for those 2), and 12 adults

That's about 45cm x 70cm per person, not taking into account your DC have more than one present. That's nowhere near enough unless they are all very small, easy to wrap gifts!

45cm x 70cm is about enough to wrap 2 paperbacks separately. Irregular shaped items will need more paper than similar sized regular shaped items.

I’ve bought 60m! It was on offer so got some of it for free. We’re not a family who go too crazy with gifts but I’d rather have too much and just put it aside for next year. I bought 25m last year and there wasn’t enough.

If you want to save money and the environment, I always buy wrapping paper after Christmas when it is reduced to about 10p a roll. For close family, we try to reuse gift boxes and bags every year. My stash was bought last century and they are still going strong! You can always make your own gift boxes by glueing (January sale) wrapping paper on brown boxes or get the DC to decorate them.

I guess it depends on the type of gifts you give, but it sounds like you've maybe gone a little too conservative.

I usually get through 3 or 4 rolls, for 2 of my own kids and about twelve other people to buy for. I’m going to buy extra this year so I don’t have to pop out and buy more. Would ideally like to use recyclable paper and tape, is there such a thing?

Agree that it depends how large the gifts are, but doesnt seen enough at all? I have gift bags which I've re-used over the years, so rarely actually wrap anything now. Another option is to use a teatowel or scarf as a wrap. lots of tutorials online on how to wrap things to save paper and use alternative wraps.

I forgot, last year I used newspaper and nice ribbons/natural decorations like cones to cut back on using brand new paper.

@Lovemusic33 There are some recyclable wrapping papers, it normally says on the label. Another option would be brown parcel paper decorated with stamps/ribbons etc.

This year we've bought this tape which can be chucked in the recycling when done.

I go through about 100m. Buy for 2 sets of parents, my dad, DH grandparents, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 1 cousin, 1 BF, my managers daughter, our DD and 2 dogs plus my DH and he for me

Ok this is very helpful

I always have a back up roll of craft paper and Christmas stamps so that helps but I will get more

Always stick to the recyclable stuff.
Might make a few fabric gift bags if I have the time (new baby so unlikely)
(No sewing machine yet either )
