DS(5) will turn 6 early next year and has said he would only Lego for Christmas.

I’m looking for ideas for other things a nearly 6yo boy might like too. He loves books so we always get those.

He already has Kinetic Sand, Playmobil, Hot Wheels, various games but most don’t interest him for long, vehicles, train sets, dinosaur figures etc.

Likes anything super hero, dinosaurs, Lego, science experiments.

I have a 5/6 year old who turns 6 the week before Xmas and he is getting Lego, also some board games ( he really enjoys them unlike my eldest), an art set and various bits of stationary, a pin board, lockable diary/notebook and possibly a camera.

Having said that my eldest often asked for just Lego. I spent a few years trying to find other things for him but then came to the realisation that he really did just want Lego - so then I just majored one that and only bought a few other very inexpensive things to bulk it out ( he often really likes a themed bit of clothing!). He was always very happy. I kind of felt I’d wasted money getting him other stuff as he’d often only be interested in it for a short time - unlike the Lego!

Nephew is really into crafts, atm. Check out Baker Ross for kid-friendly kits.

He loves painting figures he can then play with, so something like a paint dinosaurs kit off Amazon would go down a treat.

Dress up is still big at this age. Super hero costume or a good quality Melissa & Doug costume like a policeman or a ninja.

A skateboard. Ordered an Xootz one off amazon which looks good, smaller than normal size/ better for younger children. Will be interesting to watch them and try to skateboard!

One of the presents my DS has played with most and still does after years is called Zoobs, bits that "click" together. He has a great imagination and makes all sorts of things with them.

Does he have a 2-wheel scooter?

My DS (similar age) is all about the Lego, too (mostly Harry Potter, but also some dinosaur kits). He also likes science, so there are some fun kits from Galt and National Geographic. Books tend to be about space, volcanoes and dinosaurs. He also likes puzzles and I’ve added another new set to his Galt marble run. I think mostly Amazon and Argos.

I just bought a colossal Jurassic World dinosaurs in the Argos sale, which I think he will love. Playdoh is still popular and more kinetic sand with new tools.

If he likes science, some of the Galt Science sets are perfect for that age. My five year old loved the Rainbow science set (largely colour mixing and crystals) and the bubble set.

Just to add, another thing my older son loved at that age were Magformers. They were played with every day for a very long time, and he still gets them out fairly frequently now, aged nearly 8.

DS is 5. He's getting an upgraded scooter as he's got too tall for his. He has also asked for a marble run.
