Covid Christmas

I am personally finding it hard to get my head round the idea that numbers allowed in my home for Christmas Day may be restricted. It would almost be easier if we were locked down to our own home but my problem is that I normally have 8 for Christmas Day and obviously that's two more than the current rules allowed. These are all immediate family and I am going to find it very very difficult if only 6 are allowed to to attend. I am very much hoping that the government allows us a break for 1 or 2 days over Xmas.

It’s a good while yet, so a lot could change between now and Christmas.

We normally have a big family Christmas but its pretty impossible to plan anything now. At February half term we were on holiday in the US watching the news about Wuhan, horrified but with no indication of what was to come. 3 months later we were in full lockdown, hadn't seen friends and family for weeks, queueing outside supermarkets and thousands had died, 3 months after that we were enjoying seeing friends, having barbecues and shopping again, and now here we are...

I'm sorry but I woild have the 8. And probably will do.
I'm not going to allow my single father to be alone. Nor my inlaws.
Wouldn't invite one side without the other.
It's that simple.

And I can put money on it that many will be the same.

.... and this will be one of the reasons why the UK is doing so badly at controlling the spread of the virus.

I must be a miserable bugger but I love the idea of not having to see all and sundry at Christmas!! Maybe the one benefit of this shit show. Finally a day to do what WE want without hosting or having to do the grand tour. Bloody marvellous!

In addition to that, not leaving anyone alone by the way, not that heartless!!

I think there probably will be restrictions on mixing households at Christmas. Even if not nationwide there will probably still be local ones. Personally I'm abandoning any plans for a normal Christmas and will just celebrate as a household. I don't think you can uninvited 2 people so maybe just tell them you've cancelled plans for this year? Or stagger them coming to you throughout the day? Or have some on Boxing Day instead?

No going to other people's homes at all here in Scotland. My poor wee Mum.

I can't see the situation getting any better while the schools are open.

I'm guessing there will be a Christmas Day amnesty, to avoid looking weak when millions break rules.

A lot can change in 3 months, I can't see it getting much better though. I usually have a busy house with visitors coming and going, parents for dinner then siblings come later, we have days round in laws and it's busy. I'm looking forward to slowing down, having an easier Xmas day enjoying the kids and spreading out the visits if we can even have them by then. Just hope we can add a couple to our day and enjoy what we have. We will have to skip most houses though if it's still 6 including kids.

We are in local lockdown in the north east, so even having our adult kids on Christmas Day is looking unlikely. Christmas dinner for two is a distinct possibility ☹️
