Thanks @moonbabyandthebeast for thread title

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Referral link here . Use this to post any links where you can refer a mner and you or both of you get an incentive. For ease and fairness please don’t post these on the main thread.

Cash back sites. You can order through cash back sites like Quidco and topcashback. It’s really simple, you just create a free account and then when you’re purchasing anything online you search on the cash back site the lace you’re ordering from and see if they do cash back and if so follow the link to place the order. You usually have to earn £5 minimum to cash the money back but it easily adds up. Go to the referral link page to join if you haven’t before.

The summer holidays 25% off at Tu was due to start next week, but has been at the least postponed, and probably cancelled. The next one is then usually October half term.

camel camel camel is a great page for price tracking amazon

A great website for looking up items of specific price so you hit the £20 free delivery at amazon here

Sockeatingmonster’s age old but very useful top tips for using aliexpress (note these are also relevant for wish website and anything shipped from China on Amazon and Ebay - you can usually tell by the estimated delivery time and multiple same pictures but different companies. Although you can filter search by country on Ebay. - thanks scrappydappydoo for that bonus point).

“1. Check reviews

  1. Be wary of plastic toys. There have been concerns about toxic plastics from China, and I have binned plastic figures for having very unpleasant smells. I no longer buy any 'low-end' plastic items (UPDATE: I wouldn’t buy squishiest either, for the same reason) and only ever from sellers with lots of positive reviews
  2. Aliexpress refund/complaints procedure is actually way more straightforward than eBay, and stacked in the buyer's favour
  3. Beware of mains operated electricals, many of which are supplied without fused plugs. Always message the seller first if in doubt, don't rely on the photos
  4. I don't trust dress up clothes to be flame retardant, although I don't believe this is UK law anyway?
  5. Clothes can come up very small. Quality can be variable (excellent to awful). Photos are often of similar items, so take them with a pinch of salt and check the reviews.
  6. Actually, all photos on Aliexpress should be taken with a pinch of salt. Again, check reviews (where buyers often post photos of the actual item received)
  7. I wouldn't trust toys to meet UK safety standards and wouldn't buy anything that could pose a risk (e.g. Paint might not be safe for children to gum, there could be sharp edges/choking hazards, etc)
  8. Lego alternatives don't tend to stick together as well as genuine Lego. Minifigures are still excellent value, but the odd one might benefit from a few drops of superglue.

10. Barbie and other doll clothes can be excellent value, but check reviews for fabric quality and finish (UPDATE: Type “18 inch doll” for clothes that will fit American Girl/Our Generation/Designafriend dolls. Shoes are particularly excellent value. Wash dark clothing first as dyes can stain dolls’ limbs)
11. Stationery is generally excellent value, although paper quality can be lower than expected. Type 'kawaii' into stationery and be prepared to spend a fortune!

Also to add I’ve seen a fair few posts from fb this year from small businesses where aliexpress have posted photos of their products and photos without permission, so be wary and be warned the photo might not be exactly what you get.”

Bargainmax here

Laser cut outs which have been popular on the thread here

Lisa angel is a very popular site with great regular sale discounts on jewellery etc here

Thanks for the new thread @Reastie.

English Heritage are offering 15 months of membership for the price of 12 - not a huge bargain but could be good for parents or those who are hard to buy for?

Even in your drug induced haze you got the gin details correct !

Rhubarb and ginger or Clementine £18 a bottle

@EvilHerbivore don't worry they hate me too - I've got £7 off a £70 shop. I'm annoyed I never get anything nice like free Percy Pigs for DD's stockings and furthermore I don't get any e-mails from them either!

Added to end of last thread then saw there was a new one. They move soo quick!

I've just bought some personalised Xmas pet decorations for grandparents, they're BOGOF. With postage it was £8.15 for 2, which isn't ridiculously cheap but I didn't think was bad for 2 personalised little stocking fillers. My dog mad Mum will love hers. smile

They were from The Crafty Giraffe. I ordered some different ones for my 2 boys last year on the same offer but personalised wooden bauble shapes and they came with no issues.

Afternoon all.
I looked at my bank account this morning and ran away screaming. I know I should be happy because thanks to being here from day 1 this year I'm 3/4 done but I still hyperventilated a bit!

Only took possession of a rather splendid yet unChristmassy teachers planning book today. My, but it's lovely.

Home Bargains have a Christmas tree shaped chopping board - didn't spot the price but might be nice to add to hampers etc?

For those doing the Beer52 offer (thanks again to original poster),
Mine came today and it’s great for under £6 👍🏻.
I went online to cancel and it offered me £5 off my next box as an incentive to stay. It also offered me 2 additional free beers, so that’s 10 beers, snacks and a book apparently worth £12.99 for £19 delivered. Next months box is ‘Oktoberfest’ so some great beers that I’m going to give to my adult ds as a Halloween treat.

The WH Smiths thing is bonkers. I just got a copy of Drink London 100 best bars and pubs in London normally £9.99 reduced to 99p in the clearance for 89 pence delivered using the SUPER10 code for 10% off.
That is one great stocking filler.

Not sure if anyone posted it but those let down by Asda for the house, JL are selling it for £25 as I think they are pricing matching but haven't realised Asda are not selling the correct item.

I have been able to cancel beer52 via email if that helps anyone.
Worth adding Lego to camelcamelcamel tracker if you’re after a particular set as some of mine have changed eg Lego friends boat to £59.99 from £80 (and still £80 elsewhere)
Does anyone happen to have any lovely Matalan codes ?!

@TheGirlWhoLived Your welcome. I am still waiting on my asda order but ready to call them to come and collect it lol I only found out as I looked at the asda reviews and someone said it was down in price on JL. When I looked the other day they had it for 69.99

Report
peasando · 16/09/2020 17:11

Don't have any codes but TCB are doing up to 10% cash back on Matalan staggered depending on how much you spend - you have to spend £100 to get the full 10%.

Not sure if it's already been posted but Radio Times are doing their 6 issues for £1 and it includes the Xmas issue now (you just select the start date as part of the checkout process).

Thank you! I didn't think I needed it, but when it went from "8 people are viewing this right now" to 100+ in a few seconds, I decided I HAD TO HAVE IT! For my DD of course, not because I'm addicted to bargain shopping or anything. Seriously, I could stop any time I want... 🙈

Does anyone know if schleich are ever reduced please?

@Cinderellashoes They are on 3 for 2 but not sure where I saw it. Smyths maybe?

Report
pasinphoebe · 16/09/2020 17:19

@Cinderellashoes I haven’t ever seen them reduced myself and we’ve been collecting a few years.
They are one thing I wouldn’t class as a bargain price wise for that reason - I use them as an opportunity to shop in our local toy shop.
Toysrus used to do 3for2 back in their day!
Thanks @peasando for Matalan topcashback.
Mulling over a new duvet set Hmm
