Could we have an advent calendar thread?

I thought it might be nice to have a thread to chat about advent calendars.

My dc are trying to pick between Lego Starwars

Lego Harry Potter

and pokemon

I’m thinking of getting dh either a marshmallow or a more sensible coffee advent calendar.

I really like this Mr Holmes mystery one but can’t think of anyone who’d appreciate it.

DH, who doesn't subscribe to any superfluous Christmas 'stuff' declared yesterday he was treating himself to the Brewdog advent calendar and I've decided to get a Playmobil one for DS.

Now for me to decide what I want!!! Any good beauty recommendations gladly received.

I had the Clinique one last year, it was fairly pricey at £80 but I am still using the gifts from it now and a couple of them have become firm favourites.

I hadn’t thought of a coffee one before, but think the Nespresso one for £25 might be a good idea for DH. It’s showing as sold out online but that feels a bit early? Anyone know anything about when they are available?

Yes please op, I love an advent calendar conversation.

Full disclosure - we have too many advent calendars. But it is now a tradition so I'm noy planning to change it.

I have already got a harry potter funko pop advent calendat for dd1 and the lego friends advent calendar where you build lego christmas decorations. I got both on offer and I'm hoping they are better than thr Smiggle ones I got them last year which weren't as good as I imagined.

I will also fill a homemade advent calendar of little buckets that they have had since they were tiny. I think I've got about 16 or 17 day's worth of things at the moment. Planning to do an Ali Express order for bits of stationary to complete this.

We also have two calendars that are reused each year - one is a tree to add decorations to and one is a model of a tree house with the dd's names on the door that gets an extra decoration each day.

I am toying with getting myself a picture calendar like the ones from my youth too.

Yes please, following. I am waiting for my usual diptyque advent calendar from DH and hoping for new scents and fragrances but wondering what to get for him as we don't have a usual one for him.

Beauty calendar- Temple Spa are bringing out their first ever advent calendar this year. I love their products, especially the truffle range. It’s £120 so quite expensive but it’s got £240 worth of products.

I bought myself the boy shop one, it was £70 so pretty expensive and also my 2 DC got a lego one each. I'm still searching high and low for one for DP! He hates flavoured coffee so no the the beanies one and as he doesn't like Marshmallow either so he won't appreciate or eat the naked Marshmallow one either 🤦‍♀️

I got my husband a biscuit one from b and m last year as he loves his chocolate biscuits. I got all the Gold bars.
I did my own spy one last year for then 6 and 10 year olds. Took a lot of work but then enjoyed it. I set up clues and puzzles to solve and some had reward like spy pens or magnifying glasses etc and others had chocolate coin etc. Got props like crime scene tape etc. It was fun but not sure how to improve on that this year!!!

Dd wants a bath bomb calendar this year and ds probably Lego Star Wars one. I got body shop one for myself. I like beauty ones but I have so much products left from last year.

This year for my Nov birthday I have asked DH to get my favourite Thorntons Alpini chox and individually wrap them for my wooden/lit advent winter house (normally just have jokes from DS). That's all I've asked for! But now I'm wondering about the Sherlock Holmes one...

I need to go a bit more careful with advent calendar this year last year the kids both had expensive ones the eldest had match attax cards the youngest had mini Thomas trains every day, The mother-in-law so make someone by filling in Advent train but as the boxes are too small a lot of the time they just end up with individual little presents to open every single day

Both of them are really into Pokémon this year might buy the Pokémon one for them to share I think it’s terrible value for what you get however

They’ve previously had happyland, minions and Lego

I’m fancying something baileys themed this year for me

Oooh can I join?

Mine is 2 and had the Asda Disney books last year (books were tiny with tiny writing and so many pages) the year before we got the toot toot drivers which had loads of crap small plastic random/ not played with items in!

I'm thinking of the Happyland one this year as it looks the best for little ones so far!

Any recommendations greatly received 😊

I’m very tempted by the naked marshmallow one for myself.

DD1 (11 at Christmas) has got last years Harry Potter funko pop one, I got it in the sale for £20 and she also has The Hogwarts Express one from Primark that my friend managed to find in the sale for £1.30!!! I will just put a chocolate/chocolate coin in each day.

DD2 (8) has a slime one and a traditional wooden one that I will do the same as DD1.

Dc1 is getting the Novelmore playmobil one. He's hoping for one of the castles as a main present so it will tie in well.
Dc2 wants a playmobil one too but I haven't decided which yet.

They'll also have a wooden one loaded with gummi bears.

Dh fancies the Brew Dog one. No idea for me yet.

I’m struggling for ideas for myself as I’m not really into beauty products or smelly stuff. I might just fill the wooden one with a few wee bits.

@Figgygal I totally agree that the pokemon one is over priced. In previous years I’ve picked up second hand bundles of whatever the big obsession was so that just seems exhorbitant.

I really like the nespresso advent - that would be nice for dh at work. I wonder will it come back in stock.

I’ll probably get DDs the Smiggle one again this year, the do like it and it’s good value.
I always get the M&S beauty one but they’re not doing it this year 😢😢

I've bought myself a jigsaw one - it's from Gibsons and looks lovely.
I have no idea how to hyperlink so this probably won't work:

Love the Sherlock one. Either DD or DH would appreciate it.
I have a wooden house filled with tiny boxes that I do for DD. It's getting trickier to fill each box. I've done lovely buttons and ribbons (when she was into craft), little nail polish bottles, sweets (obvs), cute little post its, stickers. Tiger are great for small advent content.
I'll take a look at the marshmallow advent - that looks up DH's street.

For those considering the Pokemon one - last year I couldn’t find a Pokemon one so I bought a pack of 24 little Pokemon figures from amazon (think I paid 5 but just checked and just under a tenner now) and then I put the figures into our wooden advent calendar. Might be a cheaper option for some.

I've decoupaged two wooden Christmas Tree Advent calendars for the girls, and OMG I shot myself in the foot. I leave clues in the drawer each night, for them to find a little treat hidden round the house. Woe betide me if I forget. . . I do things like facemasks, hair masks, jewellery, make up, lip glosses, hand cream, bath bombs, the kind of stuff teens like to get.

DH, I've got him the Virgin Red Wine Advent box, and this year I'm taking a break from Molton Brown, and going to have l'occitane.

I've preordered my ds the nightmare before christmas funko pop advent calendar as that is his favourite film. I want to get my dd the happyland one but not sure whether to wait for a deal or just order it so I know I've got it!
