Fake "gameboys"/ retro game gift help plz!

Has anyone ever bought those fake gameboy kind of consoles online or anything? Any recommendations? I've seen quite a lot under £20 on amazon but no idea if they're worth it.

My OHs nephew seems to enjoy the retro kind of games on my sons ds and tablet when he comes over, I thought I'd try and get something affordable that he can use as he doesnt have consoles at his house.

My DS has one. My friend bought it for him last christmas (as well as one for his own son). He paid around £15 for it. It works really well and has loads of games on it.

You could just buy an actual gameboy colour on ebay (second hand or refurb). For about 20-30 quid.

What do you mean by fake ones. I wouldn't waste money on a fake.
Do you mean the retro ones where they are like a mini version of a SNES or Megadrive and come with pre loaded games. They are quite fun and you just have to plug them into your TV. They aren't 'fake'. Either made under licence or by the original comprany themselves. The shop called Menkind is great for these.

Along the lines of what delta was saying I think so it has the look of a gameboy preloaded with games (not buying individual disks and games). Some I've seen have said they come with nintendo stuff like super Mario etc.

The mini snes and megadrive stuff I've seen are over £50, we aren't going to budget that much for him. I thought with something handheld it's at least portable so he can take it when he goes out or goes to grandparents etc.

Yes sorry, let me be clear. My son had the one that looks like a retro gameboy but smaller, and has something like 400 games preloaded onto it.

We have a Sega one and it will work with original Sega cartridges in addition to its preloaded games. Good fun if you want to relive Sonic the Hedgehog!

A lot of those come from China and the electrics may be dodgy so if you do get one, be sure to charge it where you can keep an eye on it. And be aware that lose parts like controller sticks may be more likely than you'd expect to fall off and pose a choking hazard for younger children. Other than this it will do what you want it to do - why not?

I was looking at buying my boys the megadrive one. Is it worth while?
It's so nostalgic for me!! Those games I grew up with!

BertieBotts as long as the OP gets one of the ones sold at retailers like Menkind, Argos, Smyths (3 I can think of that sell them - other places like John Lewis might) then it won't be 'fake'. That's why I questioned what she meant by fake.

Thanks guys I think I will take a chance on one of the ones I've seen on amazon, hopefully it will work alright - we aren't looking to spend more than £20 on what we get. I'll check menkind etc in case they do something similar nearer xmas. I'm sure places like primark etc. Did some last year or year before but dont know what stock will be like for 2020.

My DH is obsessed with retro gaming and has one of those. They're a lot of fun and have hundreds of games on them so I've enjoyed playing all my old Nintendo favourites. We've had ours for a couple of years now and it still gets played a lot.
